While you can simply add drives or drive arrays to keep up with data growth, the sheer volume of data can impact your system’s ability to process and analyze information.

Technical white paper| HP ProLiant SL4500 server series Architecture The ProLiant SL4500 server series uses an architecture that brings high storage capacity close to the processing power. You can choose between one-, two-, and three-node chassis configurations with 60, 25, and 15 drives per node, allowing you to select the optimum core-to-spindle ratio for your application.

Technical white paper| HP ProLiant SL4500 server series HP ProLiant SL4540 Gen8 server The HP ProLiant SL4540 Gen8 server system uses an Intel–based node architecture (Figure 3) using one or two Intel® Xeon® E5-2400 series processors that utilize the PCIe 2.0 interface and have four, six, or eight processor cores each. Each processor socket has three DDR3 memory channels that can accommodate two DIMMs each for a total of twelve DIMMs at up to 1333 MHz. Figure 3. Intel-based server node architecture.

Technical white paper| HP ProLiant SL4500 server series Drive bays and storage The HP ProLiant SL4500 server uses top-load drive bays to maximize storage density with hot-plug LFF HDDs (Figure 5). You can use a combination of SSD, SAS, and SATA LFF drive types to meet capacity, performance, and cost requirements. Figure 5. Large data sets mean that you need substantial storage capacity, making HDDs the economical and reliable choice even though they are slower than SSDs. Data requiring high accessibility is best addressed with very low latency SDDs, although their cost-per-GB is more than HDDs.
