HP StorageWorks Reference Information Storage System V1.4 Administrator Guide (T3559-96027, March 2006)

b. Backupthedeviceconguration:
tsm: INTERNAL>backup devconfig filenames=c:\tsmbackup\devconfig
c. B ack up the ser ver options le:
Copy le C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\dsmserv.opt to
c:\tsmbackup.
d. Copy these three les to a safe location.
7. Create a list of offsite m e dia to retrieve:
a.
tsm: INTERNAL>query drmedia * wherestate=vaultretrieve
In this example the list will be empty. Usually, however, a courier would take the database,
storage poo l, and conguration backups offsite and would return with the me dia that
contain data that is no longer valid so that the media can be used for the n ext cycle.
How to recover the backup server
The following steps explain how to recover the backup server by using backup me dia that have been
stored offsite.
See the TSM Ad
ministrator’s Guide, particularly pages 751 and 782, for more information.
Example: Recovering the server from a disaster
This example is b ased on the previous example, assuming that the Backup Server was destroyed and
has to be rebuilt from the media that is stored offsite (OPTICAL.2 and 3, the recovery plan le). To
simulate destruction of the backup server, sim ply reinstall it after you remove the two remaining volumes
(OPTICAL.1 and 4) from the ser ver and establish a fresh system.
Before you continue, ma ke sure that you h ave the two volumes that contain the storage pool and
database backup, and the recovery plan le.
1. Reinstall the backup server:
a. Use the backup server installation media to reinstall the operating system and Tivoli Storage
Manager software as described in the RISS Installation Guide in “ Optional backup ser ver.
(Your HP service representative has this document.) Perform all of the steps to create a working,
fresh installation of the TSM server.
2. Recover the server:
a. Copy the recover plan le back to the backup server, into the directory: c:\tsmbackup
b. Connect to the backup server through VNC and open a command prompt.
c. Run the command:
C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server>cscript planexpl.vbs
c:\tsmbackup\recvoveryPlanFile.txt
to split the plan le into instructions, command les and TSM macros.
d. Familiarize with the les that were created.
e. Place the two volumes with the backup da ta, OPTICAL.3 and 2 (note the order), in the library.
f. Add or modify the following two comments in the le RECPLAN.DEVICE.CONFIGURA-
TION.FILE,sothatTSMcannd the backup media for restoring the database. (See the
TSM Administrator’s Guide, Automated SCSI Library at the Original and Recovery Sites,
page 788.):
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI LIB.OPTICAL OPTICAL.3 11 102*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI LIB.OPTICAL OPTICAL.2 12 102*/
g. Stop the TSM server by using the TSM Management Console. Expand the tree: TSM > TSM
Server1 > Reports > Service Information.
h. Right-click the service, and select stop.
