1 Introduction About this document HP StorageWorks SAN Visibility 5.1 (SAN Visibility) is a free software utility that enables you to analyze your Storage Area Networks (SAN) environment. It enables you to better design, administer, and manage SAN. This guide provides information to help you install, configure, and use SAN Visibility. Figure 1 SAN Settings Window . 5. The default SAN name, MySAN, is displayed in the SAN Name box. If you want to rename the SAN, then enter the name of the SAN that you want to scan in the SAN Name box, and click Rename. The SAN name appears in the SAN explorer area. NOTE: The raw data file generated by HP StorageWorks SAN Visibility uses the SAN name. For example, if the SAN name is MYHP, the raw report file is generated as MYHP.hp at the \ reports directory. 6.
NOTE: To add multiple component groups under the SAN, repeat steps 7-8. 8. Click Next. The Switch Settings window is displayed, as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2 Switch Settings Window . 9. Select one of the following options from the main display area to discover switches: • IP Address: If you know the IP address of the switch to scan. a. Enter the IP address of the switch to be scanned in the IP Address box. b.
NOTE: SAN Visibility queries the IP address to determine if it is a valid and supported switch. e. f. g. Select a component group from the Select Component Group drop-down list. Click Add. The switch is added under the switch node of the selected component group. Repeat steps a-f if you want to add multiple switches. • Subnet: If you want to find all the valid switch IP addresses in a given range of IP addresses. a. Enter the starting IP address in the Start at IP Address box. b.
Figure 3 Host Settings window . 11. Under Discover Host, select one of the following options: a. IP Address: If you know the IP address of the host: i. Enter the IP address of the host in the IP Address field. ii. Enter the access information, as required, to initiate host discovery. b. Subnet: If you want to discover hosts for a range of IP addresses: i. Enter the starting IP address in the Start at IP Address field. ii. Enter the limiting IP address in the Stop at IP Address field. iii.
Figure 4 Customer Details Window . 14. Enter your contact information in the Customer Details window. These details are part of the processed report. NOTE: Ensure that the email address you entered is accurate and the SAN Visibility reports are sent to this email address only. If the report is sent from E-mail id other than the configured mail id in SV GUI, then the sender will be notified after successful processing. Use semicolon (;) between the email addresses to enter multiple email address.
NOTE: Providing details in the Advanced Settings window is optional. The Advanced Settings window enables you to specify HBA-Host map details, load FICON switch related files, specify SAN components, customize SAN device labels to be displayed in the topology diagrams and check compatibility for the SAN components. Select a component group from the Select a component group for data collection drop-down list, or select Collect data for all component groups check box if you want to initiate data collection for all the component groups. 19. Select Schedule data collection check box if you want to schedule data collection. When you select this option, the Schedule button is enabled. To schedule data collection, do the following: a. Click Schedule.
Figure 6 Schedule Data Collection Window . b. Select the Start time. By default, the start time is displayed as 12:00 AM. c. Select an option to schedule data collection. You can schedule data on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Select the start date and end date to schedule data collection. By default, the current date is displayed as the start date and end date. d. e. f. g. Click Schedule to schedule data collection. Click Cancel to cancel the scheduled data collection.
23. Click Start to initiate data collection for a specific component group, or for all the component groups depending on the requirement. Click Stop if you want to stop the data collection process. A message is displayed in the message area on completion of the data collection. 24. Click Default Mail Client to launch your default email client on completion of the data collection. NOTE: This button is enabled only if you have chosen not to automatically send the collected raw data to HP for processing.
Figure 7 SAN Comparison Window . 2. Select File > Open > Dataset1. By default, it opens the ExtractedProcessedReports folder. 3. Select the SVReport.comp file for comparison. 4. Follow steps 1–3 to load Dataset 2. If you select any node in Dataset1 or Dataset 2, the corresponding details of the node will be displayed. 5. Select Highlight Changes > Dataset1 or Dataset2 to check the changes. The changes will be highlighted in red (see Figure 8) and the new devices are shown in blue.

Select Highlight Changes > Dataset1 or Dataset2 to view the changes. You can filter SAN based on the following components: • Arrays • HBAs • Hosts • Switches • Zones 7. Select Generate Report > Compare Dataset1 with Dataset2 or Compare Dataset2 with Dataset1 to generate the compared report.
Figure 9 Compared report . By default, it opens the My Documents folder. Save the compared report by selecting a folder of your choice. 8. 9. Decrypt the report to view the compared report details. Select Remove > Dataset1 or Dataset2, to remove datasets, or select Remove > Remove All to remove both the datasets. 10. Select Exit to exit from the SAN comparison window.
