Description HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform (SVSP) is a hardware and software solution that enhances the storage capabilities of approved storage arrays. Using Virtualization Service Manager (VSM) software, redundant VSM servers and Data Path Modules (DPMs) map application server I/O to locations on storage systems. Versions HP SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1, which includes: • Virtualization Services Manager software version 1.1.398.0–D supported by LSI HBA driver version 9.
• Additional storage arrays are supported. See the SPOCK website at http://www.hp.com/storage/ spock for a list of supported arrays. Site registration is required. • Added more operating system support (for example, Solaris 10). See SPOCK for the list of supported operating systems. • Defined maximum distances • Asynchronous mirrors are supported up to 150 ms one-way separation (still iSCSI only), and minimum bandwidth set to 3 Mbps. • Synchronous mirrors supports up to 0.
Capabilities and limitations For a glossary of terms used in this document, refer to other SVSP documentation like the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform administrator guide.
SVSP back-end capabilities and limitations • Back-end array capacity of the SVSP system: 1 PB using 512 2–TB back-end LUs • Maximum number of back-end LUs: 512, up to 8 paths per BELU (2048 paths) per DPM group (4 per DPM) NOTE: There is a limit of 254 back-end LUs (just under 1/2 PB using 2 TB per LU) per array, enforced by the VSM.
• • • • • • name of a VSM server is allowed if two VSM servers manage the system and are both connected to the SAN. Do not initiate an iSCSI connection for a VSM server to itself. Loopback is not supported. Only one NIC should be used as the iSCSI initiator/target on a VSM server. The other NIC is used for management. Therefore, the iSCSI NIC could be in a private Ethernet domain used exclusively for an SVSP domain-to-domain replication (remote mirroring).
5. Halt the first I/O stream to the virtual disk (initiated in step 3 above). 6. Unpresent the virtual disk to its host (presented in step 2 above). 7. Delete the virtual disk (created in step 1 above). Carrying this example further, if you decide to delete the pool from which virtual disks are created, you must delete all the virtual disks in that pool.
PA-RISC machines for HP-UX cannot boot from an external disk PA-RISC machines running HP-UX were tested for the ability of HP-UX to be installed directly to a disk presented by a storage array. The machines could not consistently reboot from an external disk, therefore this is not supported at this time.
Changing virtual disk or group DPM selection from two to one DPM is not allowed VSM does not allow changing the virtual disk or virtual disk group DPM’s selection from two to one DPM. Reducing the DPM selection to a single DPM must be done by removing permissions and reassigning the permissions through a single DPM. Computer name of single VSM server in SAN must not be changed When a single VSM server is connected to the SAN, its computer name must not be changed.
New back-end LUNs require rescan To discover new back-end LUNs, perform a rescan from Computer Management on the VSM server. Do not use the Rescan devices option from the Windows Management GUI. Use this general procedure when assigning a new EVA LUN: 1. Present a new LUN (or group of new LUNs) to the VSM using HP Command View. 2. Log in to the VSM server, right-click on the My Computer icon, and select Manage. 3. Click Device Manager.
cannot be opened.) Some of the files may be locked by another user or application (like Remote Desktop), or you need to delete these sessions before running Java Web Services. Suspend active snapclone or migration tasks before deleting If you have a virtual disk doing snapclone or migration tasks, and delete that task in the middle of the data moving process (without suspending it first), the task becomes stuck and never completes the deletion.
7. Remove the presentation. 8. Rescan for new devices on each UDH. 9. Set presentation to both UDHs at once. Read-only permissions are not supported in the VSM GUI Do not assign read-only permissions to a virtual disk using the VSM GUI, even if this is allowed in the GUI.
Solaris host is running I/O to a virtual disk and the command is applied on that virtual disk, the Solaris host reactivates the virtual disk and the virtual disk does not become active on the other DPM. Rescan is required after deleting or unpresenting virtual disks Hosts may not automatically detect that a virtual disk has been deleted or unpresented. A rescan should be performed on the host after any virtual disks to that host have been deleted or unpresented.
DPM CLI stops working after DPM downgraded from version 5.1.41 to version 5.1.31 Newer security measures in version 5.1.41 causes issues when logging in after a unit has been downgraded to version 5.1.31. If it is required to downgrade to version 5.1.31, please contact HP Support.
Order of magnitude of Tx/Rx Kbytes not correct with show ports stats command After a long runtime, the Tx Kbytes and Rx Kbytes statistics are not output correctly for the show ports stats command. HP is working to resolve this issue. The ‘%’ option of the show log command moves to the end of the file The in-editor help display states you should press the % option, then enter a percentage.
domain is displayed instead of the message The Specified LUN is already used by this host. HP is working to resolve this issue. Incorrect error message displayed with -UsePreviousTemplateSuffix parameter When running a CLI command with the -UsePreviousTemplateSuffix parameter, an error is displayed even though the command was executed successfully. HP is working to resolve this issue.
The ResumeLocalAsyncMirrorTask command does not work in HP-UX the first time The ResumeLocalAsyncMirrorTask command may not work until the second time it is executed in HP-UX. Therefore, either try rerunning the command, or run the ResumeAllLocalAsyncMirrorTasks command instead. HP is working to resolve this issue.
Virtual disk not added to async mirror group with AddDiskToVirtualDiskGroupWithAsyncMirror command With the AddDiskToVirtualDiskGroupWithSyncMirror command, a disk can be added to a virtual disk group that has an asynchronous mirror, but an error message is received, and the disk is not added to the asynchronous mirror group. The workaround is to perform this task with the VSM GUI. HP is working to resolve this issue. HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.
