9 Basic troubleshooting
This chapter describes how to solve problems you might encounter after installing and configuring
the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform.
Diagnostic tools
HP Command View EVA and the Array Configuration Utility (ACU) for the MSA will report hardware
and configuration problems after storage has been presented to the HP StorageWorks SAN
Virtualization Services Platform domain.
Fault isolation
Use Table 9 to isolate your problem to a category, and then go to the reference mentioned that
describes a corrective action.

Corrective actionProblem
Verify that:
The power supply is turned on.
The power cords are connected to a grounded
electrical outlet with power applied.
The DPM or VSM server does not power on
Check if the second VSM is active.
Check the status of VSM service in the VSM monit-
or. Double-click on the VSM icon in the system tray.
The “instant on” license has expired. See“Entering
licenses” on page 19.
The VSM does not become active on startup.
