HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1.1 release notes (5697-0066, July 2009)

VSM creates HBAs and host entries for a Brocade switch
Due to the fabric name server logging into the DPM as an initiator, the switch can sometimes show
up in the VSM as an HBA. The DPM should filter out switch ports so they are not presented to the
VSM. This has no practical effect, but may be confusing. HP is working to resolve this issue.
Additional DPM limitations
The following are additional limitations that should be observed for the DPMs:
DPM ports may sometimes not properly initialize their link with the fabric when using McData
switches. The issue can be avoided by setting the DPM port and the McData switch port speed to
be the same instead of relying on automatic speed negotiation.
If the back-end storage is overloaded (returning a high rate of busy and queue full responses or
becoming unresponsive), the front-end host could experience I/O errors being returned from the
DPM. This is particularly true when running a synchronous mirror workload and performing per-
turbations (DPM reboots, cable disconnects, and so on).
When upgrading a Windows DSM-B host to the Full-Feature (FF) DSM, permissions to all virtual
disks presented to that host must be removed prior to uninstalling DSM-B and reapplied after FF-
DSM has been installed and the personality selected for the UDH has been changed to HP-EVA
VS-ALUA. An alterative workaround would be to reboot both DPMs after FF-DSM has been installed
and the personality for the UDH has been changed.
The personality or OS type of a user-defined host (UDH) cannot be changed in the VSM while
virtual disks are exposed. All virtual disk permissions must be removed before changing the per-
sonality or OS type of a UDH. Not doing so could lead to unexpected results, a crash, or a reboot
of the DPMs.
There is no Linux support for Emulux HBAs.
VSM CLI issues
VSM CLI cannot assign a virtual disk to a specific DPM group
Virtual disks that belong to a virtual disk group (VDG) are always presented to a host through a
specific Data Path Module (DPM) group. The VSM GUI has an internal algorithm that assigns a virtual
disk to the DPM group, therefore it is not recommended that the VSM CLI be used to assign a virtual
disk to a specific DPM group. If a host is assigned to more than one DPM group, then use the VSM
GUI and not the CLI to make virtual disk presentations. HP is working to remove this restriction.
Incorrect error message displayed with CreateSnapshotWithLun command
When running the CreateSnapshotWithLun command on a LUN that was already used, the
message Selected LUN is in the range that belongs to the host in another
domain is displayed instead of the message The Specified LUN is already used by this
host. HP is working to resolve this issue.
Incorrect error message displayed with -UsePreviousTemplateSuffix parameter
When running a CLI command with the -UsePreviousTemplateSuffix parameter, an error is
displayed even though the command was executed successfully. HP is working to resolve this issue.
