Deleting hosts
From a VSM perspective, the only requirement for deleting a host is to have the host in an absent
status. This status can be achieved by powering the host down. Once deleted on the VSM management
GUI, VSM automatically removes the permission for that host on all the objects that it used. The virtual
objects that the host used remain without permissions and you can present them to another host and
keep on using them (assuming that the new host is capable of using this information).
1. Stop applications from using virtual disks presented to the server by the domain.
2. Identify all virtual disks presented to the host. There is a tab in the VSM GUI that shows all
presented virtual disks. See the Working with hosts chapter of the HP StorageWorks SAN
Virtualization Services Platform Manager user guide.
3. Stop all remote and local replication (mirroring) tasks that involve any of the selected virtual disks.
See the Using mirroring chapter of the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform
Manager user guide.
4. For each virtual disk identified in step 2, delete all PiTs and snapshots. See the Using snapshots
chapter of the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager user guide.
5. Overwrite or reformat the entire volume.
6. Dismount from the server and unpresent from the domain. See the Working with virtual disks
chapter of the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager user guide.
7. Delete the virtual disk. See the Working with virtual disks chapter of the HP StorageWorks
SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager user guide.
8. Delete the host from the hosts table. See the Working with hosts chapter of the HP StorageWorks
SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager user guide.
9. Remove all DPM-to-server zone sets.
