4 Known Problems and Limitations
• The mediainit command fails on media connected to Ultra320 SCSI HBAs.
The format ioctl (SIOC_FORMAT) fails to format the storage media attached to A7173, AB290
Ultra320 SCSI HBA in certain scenarios. This failure renders the size of the medium zero,
which makes the medium unusable. This occurs with the mediainit(1) command, which
uses the SIOC_FORMAT ioctl.
This problem occurs when the target fails to respond to diagnostic disk monitor commands
while a SCSI format operation is in progress. The error recovery process for A7173 and
AB290 Ultra320 SCSI HBAs terminates all outstanding commands on the target, which
causes the mediainit command to fail. A subsequent diskinfo(1M) issued on the same
disk reports the disk size as zero. For example:
