Designing Disaster Recovery Clusters using Metroclusters and Continentalclusters, Reprinted October 2011 (5900-1881)

Following are the topics discussed in this section:
“Upgrading the P9000 or XP Raid Manager Software for Metrocluster with Continuous Access
for P9000 and XP” (page 514)
“Upgrading the Solutions Enabler Software for Metrocluster with EMC SRDF” (page 514)
“Upgrading the HP-UX WBEM Services for Metrocluster with Continuous Access EVA (page 514)
Upgrading the P9000 or XP Raid Manager Software for Metrocluster with Continuous
Access for P9000 and XP
To upgrade the P9000 or XP RAID Manager software online without any disruption in the
Metrocluster, complete the instructions included in the HP StorageWorks RAID Manager XP User's
Guide or HP StorageWorks P9000 RAID Manager User Guide. Metrocluster communicates with
P9000 or XP Raid Manager software only when Metrocluster packages are starting up. So,
Metrocluster package failover or package movement must be avoided until all the nodes in the
Metrocluster are upgraded to the same version of the P900 or XP RAID Manager software.
When using the disk monitoring feature, Metrocluster packages access the RAID Manager instances
on the nodes that the packages are running on. So, in such configurations, ensure that all
Metrocluster packages are moved to a different node prior to updating the P9000 or XP RAID
Manager software.
Upgrading the Solutions Enabler Software for Metrocluster with EMC SRDF
To upgrade the Solutions Enabler software online without any disruption in the Metrocluster,
complete the instructions included in the EMC documentation for SRDF Solutions Enabler.
Metrocluster communicates with Solutions Enabler software only when the Metrocluster packages
are starting up. So, Metrocluster package failover or package movement must be avoided until all
nodes in the Metrocluster are upgraded to the same version of the Solutions Enabler software.
Upgrading the HP-UX WBEM Services for Metrocluster with Continuous Access EVA
Metrocluster with Continuous Access EVA uses the HP-UX WBEM Services software to communicate
with the SMI-S server that manages the EVA disk arrays. HP WBEM Services can be updated
without having to halt the cluster or Metrocluster packages on any of the nodes. Metrocluster
communicates with this software when the Metrocluster packages are starting up. So, Metrocluster
package failover or package movement must be avoided until all nodes in the Metrocluster are
upgraded to the same version of HP WBEM Services.
