HP Support Software CD Installation Guide

Installing and running the HP Support Software CD 11
To install the driver during the operating system installation:
1. Boot the server from the operating system installation CD. The text-based Welcome screen appears.
2. At the console prompt, enter:
linux dd
The system prompts you for the driver diskette.
NOTE: If linux dd is not entered during the brief interval when the prompt is displayed, the
installation must be restarted.
3. Insert the driver diskette and press the Enter key twice. The system loads the driver from the diskette
and the install continues normally.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating systems
IMPORTANT: This Support Software CD contains the minimum software revision levels
necessary for initial setup and configuration. Additional deliverables and future updates that
support the product and the server into which it is installed can be found on the SmartStart and
Support CD.
HP ProLiant Support Packs (PSPs), server integration tools, and diagnostic utilities are examples
of additional deliverables available on the SmartStart and Support CD that you will need to
fully configure the system. See the documentation included with the SmartStart and Support CD
for detailed usage instructions.
NOTE: For Linux operating systems, refer to the documentation provided in each RPM for
specific errata kernel information.
NOTE: If you are attempting to boot to a controller other than the first controller, based on slot
order, then additional modifications to the grub.conf or lilo.conf files might be needed.
This entry follows the format root=MNmn, where MN is the major number and mn is the
minor number. The MN for controllers, using the cciss driver, starts at 68h and ends at 75h.
The minor number is the filesystem on that controller.
Examples:
root=6803—The / filesystem is on the first cciss controller, third partition.
root=7002—The / filesystem is on the third cciss controller, second partition.
