HP Support Software CD Installation Guide

Installing and running the HP Support Software CD 12
NOTE: For servers that have a setting MPS Table Mode, set the setting to enabled in the ROM-
Based Setup Utility (RBSU). You must manually disable this setting to complete an installation of
SUSE Linux by completing one of the following procedures:
Option 1: Disable ACPI in the operating system installation.
1. Boot the SUSE Linux installation CD.
2. With the Installation option selected, type acpi=off in the boot options field.
3. Continue with the installation.
Option 2: Disable the MPS Table Mode on the server.
1. Before starting the SUSE Linux installation, access RBSU by pressing F9 during
power up.
2. Disable the MPS Table Mode in the Advanced Options menu.
3. Continue with the installation as directed below.
When the installation has been completed, go back into RBSU and re-enable the MPS Table
Mode.
NOTE: When attempting to configure a server with more than eight controllers utilizing the
same driver (CCISS in this case), consider that you can remove only one of the first eight
enumerated controllers in the server.
After operating system installation
To install the driver after installing the operating system:
1. Insert the Support Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Open a console prompt.
3. Mount the CD-ROM by entering
# mount /media/cdrom
4. Change to the software directory by entering
# cd /cdrom/Linux/<OS vendor>
5. List the contents of the directory by entering
# ls
CAUTION: If the kernel configuration being used is different from the base kernel that is
installed during a typical operating system installation, the next step might render some devices
inoperable because it replaced the current boot image with a boot image that contains the
base kernel and the driver.
To integrate previous kernel changes into the new image, the source must be downloaded,
recompiled, and installed as a boot image. For more information or for a copy of the source
RPMs, see http://www.hp.com (http://www.hp.com
).
Before continuing, ensure that the RPM included on this CD supports the errata kernel that is
loaded on the system.
6. Select the proper RPM for the current operating system and install it by entering (on a single line):
# rpm -ivh
cpq_cciss-<driver version>-<release>.<SUSE OS version>.<arch>.rpm
