HP Support Software CD Installation Guide
Installing and running the HP Support Software CD 8
Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems
IMPORTANT: This Support Software CD contains the minimum software revision levels
necessary for initial setup and configuration. Additional deliverables and future updates that
support the product and the server into which it is installed can be found on the SmartStart and
Support CD.
HP ProLiant Support Packs (PSPs), server integration tools, and diagnostic utilities are examples
of additional deliverables available on the SmartStart and Support CD that you will need to
fully configure the system. See the documentation included with the SmartStart and Support CD
for detailed usage instructions.
NOTE: If you are attempting to boot to a controller other than the first controller, based on slot
order, then additional modifications to the grub.conf or lilo.conf files might be needed.
This entry follows the format root=MNmn, where MN is the major number and mn is the
minor number. The MN for controllers, using the cciss driver, starts at 68h and ends at 75h.
The minor number is the filesystem on that controller.
Examples:
• root=6803—The / filesystem is on the first cciss controller, third partition.
• root=7002—The / filesystem is on the third cciss controller, second partition.
NOTE: When attempting to configure a server with more than eight controllers utilizing the
same driver (CCISS in this case), consider that you can remove only one of the first eight
enumerated controllers in the server.
After operating system installation
To install the driver after installing the operating system:
1. Insert the Support Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Open a console prompt.
3. Mount the CD-ROM by entering
# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
4. Change the software directory by entering
# cd /mnt/cdrom/Linux/RedHat
5. List the contents of the directory by entering
# ls
CAUTION: If the kernel configuration being used is different from the base kernel that is
installed during a typical operating system installation, the next step might render some devices
inoperable because it replaced the current boot image with a boot image that contains the
base kernel and the driver.
To integrate previous kernel changes into the new image, the source must be downloaded,
recompiled, and installed as a boot image. For more information or for a copy of the source
RPMs, see http://www.hp.com (http://www.hp.com
).
Before continuing, ensure that the RPM included on this CD supports the errata kernel that is
loaded on the system.
