Installation Instructions
for the HP Smart Array P430, P431, P830, and P830i
controllers
Overview
This document provides instructions for installing the HP Physical
Security Kit on supported HP Smart Array controllers.
When properly applied, the Physical Security Kit helps to provide a
tamper-evident solution for the controller.
Kit contents
The items in the kit are packaged together as shown below. Not all
items in the kit will be used.
P430 controller:
o 2G cache module cover (can also be used for the 2G P431
controller)
o Controller back cover
o DIMM connector cover
o Debug port cover
o P430 tamper-evident tape set
o Alcohol wipes (2)
P431 controller:
o Controller back cover
o DIMM connector cover
o Debug port cover
o P431 tamper-evident tape set
o Alcohol wipes (2)
P830 and P830i controllers:
o 4G cache module cover (can also be used for the 4G P430
and P431 controllers)
o Controller back cover (for P830 controller only)
o DIMM connector cover
o Debug port cover (for P830 controller only)
o P830 and P830i tamper-evident tape set
o Alcohol wipes (2)

Identifying tamper-evident tape
patterns
Use the following illustrations to identify the appropriate
tamper-evident tape:
P430 tamper-evident tape set (754580-001)
P431 tamper-evident tape set (754581-001)
P830/P830i tamper-evident tape set (754582-001)
Installing the security covers and
tamper-evident tape
IMPORTANT: When installed, the HP Physical Security Kit
obscures the serial number and spare part number. Before
installing the kit, be sure to record these numbers.
IMPORTANT: If you remove the Physical Security Kit (for
example, for a service event), you must purchase and
install a new option kit. Spare kits are not available.
1. If the controller is not installed, go to step 3.
2. If the controller is installed, do the following:
a. Power down the server.
b. Extend or remove the server from the rack.
c. Remove the access panel.
d. Remove components necessary to access the controller. For
more information, see the server user guide or the
maintenance and service guide.
e. Remove the controller from the server.
IMPORTANT: Skip this step for the P830i controller.
f. Remove the cache module.
CAUTION: Do not force the cache module cover closed
when installing it.
3. Install the cache module cover, ensuring it snaps into place.
4. Clean the surface with an alcohol wipe and apply
tamper-evident tape A in the indicated areas.
IMPORTANT: Allow alcohol to evaporate before
applying the tamper-evident tape.
