HP Smart Array 6400 Series Controllers Support Guide, September 2007

# sautil <device_file> download_dev_fw <fw_image> <ch>:<id>
This command option is described in “Physical Disk Firmware” (page 36).
The sautil <device_file> reset_ctlr command resets the Smart Array Controller. An
example of a situation that might require a controller reset is when you perform an online
replacement of the Smart Array Controller, but the logical drives on the enclosure are not detected.
The sautil <device_file> start_recovery command causes the Smart Array Controller
to rebuild any logical drives that are in READY FOR RECOVERY OPERATION state. All logical
drives in this state transition to RECOVERING. Heavy I/O to the controller can delay this transition.
There is no adverse impact if this option is entered when no logical drives are in READY FOR
RECOVERY OPERATION state.
The following sautil troubleshooting command options, included in the sautil help screen
and detailed in the sautil manpages, are intended for use by HP support personnel. Detailed
knowledge of the Smart Array Controller driver and firmware is required to interpret the output
of the following command options:
# sautil <device_file> stat
# sautil <device_file> clear_stat
# sautil <device_file> get_trace_buf
# sautil <device_file> get_fw_err_log [-raw]
# sautil <device_file> clear_fw_err_log
# sautil <device_file> get_disk_err_log <channel>:<target> [-raw]
# sautil <device_file> get_pci_header
# sautil <device_file> read_regs
Useful sautil command options for HP customers troubleshooting a Smart Array Controller
are:
# sautil <device_file>
# sautil <device_file> scan
# sautil <device_file> accept_media_xchg <logical_drive_number>
# sautil <device_file> set_transfer_rate <rate>
# sautil run_startup_script
These sautil command options are described in the following sections, and in the sautil
manpages.
The sautil <device_file> command
The sautil <device_file> command output provides detailed information on the HP Smart
Array Controller, any configured logical drives, and all SCSI devices attached to the controller.
The-s option provides a shorter and less detailed output. For an example of the sautil
<device_file> -s command output, see “Physical Disk Firmware” (page 36).
NOTE: For troubleshooting, HP recommends that you use the detailed output provided by
sautil <device_file>.
Following is an example of the output of the sautil <device_file> command:
# sautil /dev/ciss4
