HP Smart Array P800 Controller for Integrity Servers Installation Guide, December 2007

as a boot device, configure a logical drive and then complete the entire boot setup process
again.
If you have trouble accessing RAID boot data, only limited troubleshooting tools are available.
HP recommends booting from an alternative boot media and using STM and sautil online
tools. For more information, see the HP Smart Array P400 and P800 Controller for Integrity
Servers Support Guide at:

Before a Smart Array Controller can be set up as a boot device, the following dependencies must
be met:
You must have the correct version of the product dependent code (PDC) installed. For
information on the PDC versions needed for each of the supported HP-UX systems, see the
HP Smart Array Controller Release Notes. If you do not have the correct PDC version, contact
your HP representative.
You must have Smart Array Controller firmware 1.92 or later installed. For information, see
“Verifying and Updating Controller Firmware Offline” (page 11).
HP strongly recommends having an alternate boot device available.
Configuring a Logical Drive Using ORCA Offline
The Smart Array Controllers support Option ROM Configuration for Arrays (ORCA) on HP
Integrity servers. When a server is powered on, the Power-On Self Test (POST) runs, and array
controllers in the system are initialized.
If the array controller supports ORCA, POST temporarily halts, and an ORCA prompt message
appears for approximately five seconds.
If ORCA is not supported, the prompt message does not appear, and the system continues with
the startup sequence.
While the ORCA prompt is displayed, press F8 to start ORCA. The ORCA main menu appears,
enabling you to create, view, or delete a logical drive.
NOTE: Pressing F8 at the ORCA prompt might not start ORCA on all terminals. If ORCA does
not start when you press F8, reboot the system and press the key sequence ESC 8 at the ORCA
prompt to start ORCA.
