Installation Overview
To install your Smart Array Series Controller, follow these steps:
1. Plan your disk configurations. For more information, see the RAID Technology Overview at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html
2. Check the installation prerequisites. See “Installation Prerequisites” (page 25)
3. Check for the latest driver software. See “Checking for the Latest Driver Software” (page 26)
and “Installing Software” (page 26).
4. Install the controller and connect any internal disks. See “Installing the Controller” (page 26)
5. Connect any external disks. See “Connecting External Devices” (page 10).
6. Verify the controller firmware version and upgrade the controller firmware if necessary.

7. Verify the enclosure firmware version and upgrade the enclosure firmware if necessary. See

Installation Prerequisites
Before installing the Smart Array Series Controller, be sure the following hardware and software
prerequisites have been met:
1. Confirm that your server and OpenVMS operating system version are supported by the
Controller.
