Operating system
The HP ProLiant ML350 G4p Storage Server is preloaded with the
Windows
®
Storage Server 2003 operating system. Prior to power up,
deployment instructions found in the User Guide should be followed
to enable the successful configuration of the storage server in
addition to the guidelines found below.

To begin the first-time startup procedure:
Be sure that the server is safely installed in an adequate
environment.
Be sure that the power cables and peripheral devices are
plugged in and AC power is supplied to the server.
Refer to the Storage Server User Guide prior to powering up the
server.
This document is for the person who installs, administers,
and troubleshoots servers and storage systems. HP
assumes you are qualified in servicing computer
equipment and trained in recognizing hazards in products
with hazardous energy levels.
Rack option
A separate rack mount kit is required to install this storage server
into a rack. For information download the HP ProLiant ML350
Generation 4p Server User Guide on the documentation CD or visit

Flashing = System managed remotely
Off = Deactivated
2 Int system health LED Green = Normal (system on)
Amber = System health is degraded
Red = System health is critical
Off = Normal (system off)
3 Ext system health LED Green = Normal (system on)
Red = Power redundancy failure.
4 NIC link/activity LED Green = Linked to network
Flashing green = Linked with activity
Off = No network connection
5 Power on LED On = Power
Amber = System off power available
Off = No power

Callouts
Follow the steps in this section to set up a tower model server.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or
damage to the equipment, do not plug telephone or
telecommunications connectors into RJ-45 connectors.
1. Connect network cable and any peripheral devices to the server.
2. Connect the power cord to the back of the server.
3. Connect the power cord to the AC power source.
Installing a storage server (tower)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage
to the equipment:
• Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The
grounding plug is an important safety feature.
• Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical
outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
• Unplug the power cord from the power supply to
disconnect power to the equipment.
• Do not route the power cord where it can be walked on
or pinched by items placed against it. Pay particular
attention to the plug, electrical outlet, and the point where
the cord extends from the server.
