Description
This release includes updated tape drive firmware for Ultrium 3280 full-height Fibre Channel tape
drives in HP StorageWorks MSL2024, MSL4048, MSL8048, and MSL8096 Tape Libraries.
The tape drive firmware can be updated through any of the following methods:
• Remote management interface (RMI).
• Operator control panel (OCP).
• HP Library and Tape Tools (L&TT).

All HP StorageWorks MSL2024, MSL4048, MSL8048, and MSL8096 Tape Libraries with one or
more Ultrium 3280 full-height Ultrium Fibre Channel tape drives.

Enhancements
• Informational 0x3480 errors are no longer logged to the fault log if they require no corrective
action.
• Non-error entries reported as Implicit Consumption are no longer logged to the fault log.
Fixes
• Fixed a case where spacing performance was affected by unnecessary repositioning.
• Fixed a case where the drive appeared unresponsive during write operations due to internal
hardware turn-on sequencing.
Installation instructions
Upgrading from the RMI:
1. Download current firmware using HP Library & Tape Tools or from the HP support website: http://
www.hp.com/support/storage.
2. Log into the RMI as the administrator user.
3. In the Support: Firmware page, select the tape drive, browse to the location of the tape drive
firmware file, and click Update.
4. Repeat step 3 to update firmware for additional tape drives in the Library.
Upgrading from the MSL2024 OCP:
1. Download current firmware using HP Library & Tape Tools or from the HP support website: http://
www.hp.com/support/storage. Copy the firmware onto the USB flash drive.
2. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the back of the Library.
