HP B-series 16Gb FC Switches Hardware Reference Guide

Determining the need to replace a power supply
Use one of the following methods to determine the status of the power supplies:
Check the power supply AC status and DC status LEDs; both should be green. See “LEDs
(page 47) for more information. If the DC status LED is amber, there is no power running
through the cord.
In Web Tools, click the Power Status icon.
At the command prompt, enter the psShow command to display the power supply status:
Switch:admin> psshow
Power Supply #1 is OK
Airflow Direction : Portside Intake (Forward)
Power Supply #2 is OK
Airflow Direction : Portside Intake (Forward) Switch:admin>
WARNING! You must disconnect the power cords from all power sources to completely remove
power from the chassis.
Before beginning the power supply replacement
CAUTION: HP only supports the port-side exhaust configuration, and only offers the port side
exhaust fan FRU. The following information is provided only for reference.
When replacing a failed power supply or fan, the new FRU must have the same part number as
the FRU it is replacing. The manufacturing part number is located on the top of the FRU.
Both the power supply and fan FRUs are labeled with an airflow symbol on the faceplate to indicate
whether the fan assembly pulls in or exhausts air. These labels also appears on the top of the fan
assembly. All fan assemblies and power supplies must have the same airflow symbol (E or I) to be
compatible with each other.
Examples of airflow symbols
Some information to note:
The green E symbol indicates an exhaust unit. This unit pulls air in from the port-side of the
switch and exhausts it out the nonport side. This is also called front-to-back airflow or forward
airflow. This symbol should appear on FRUs with part numbers ending with -F.
The orange I symbol indicates an intake unit. This unit pulls air in from the nonport side of the
switch and exhausts it out the port-side. This is also called back-to-front airflow or reverse
airflow. This symbol should appear on FRUs with part numbers ending with -R.
The chassisShow command will indicate either forward or reverse airflow.
