Overview This document for the release of firmware version 8.0.14.08.00 is intended for customers who purchased the H-series SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch or 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch. The notes contain late-breaking and supplemental information for these products. It is important that you read these notes before installing SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch or 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch. Update recommendation • For the SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch, this update is routine.
TIP: 9. Release notes are available in General Reference. To download the document, click the title of the desired document from the table. Upgrading from earlier firmware version You can upgrade to firmware version 8.0.14.08.00 from version 8.0.14.03.00, 8.0.4.04.00, 7.6.0.02.00, 6.9.0.15.00, or 6.9.0.14.00 on an operating switch without disrupting data traffic or having to re-initialize attached devices. The switch is not required to be offline before performing an upgrade operation.
NOTE: All SN6000 Fibre Channel Switches and 8/20q Fibre Channel Switches in the same fabric must use the same firmware version. Two successive switch firmware versions can be used in a fabric temporarily while updating switch firmware. Do not enable any new switch features until the firmware upgrade is complete. Upgrading SCM SCM software is included with the purchase of a switch. Current owners of an HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch can download HP SCM 3.40 from HP to upgrade their SCM software.
The HP SN6000 Stackable 8-Gb Fibre Channel Switch is designed to make Enterprise SANs affordable and easy to use, especially as the network expands.
• HP 3PAR F200/F400, HP 3PAR StorServ P10000 (V400/V800), HP 3PAR StoreServ 7200/7400/7450 • HP StoreVirtual 4330 FC The H-series switches support the following backup solutions: • MSL6000 with LTO4 drives • MSL2024, MSL4048, and MSL8096 with LTO4 drives • EML-e Series with LTO4 drives • VLS6000, VLS9000 • VLS12000 EVA Gateway For the latest support information, see the HP SAN Design Reference Guide available at the HP website http://www.hp.com/go/sandesignguide.
Fixes The following issues are fixed in this release (since the release of firmware version 8.0.14.03.00). 8 • By using a hidden account, there is a possibility of an Ethernet vulnerability when using the switch in an unintended manner. This is resolved and associated contributing function is disabled. • Received unexpected ELP (Exchange Link Parameter) revision, received revision 3 instead of revision 2. The ELP revision alarm is due to incorrect check for ELP revision.
• QuickTools does not recognize devices with EUI-64 Mapped WWNs (those starting with 0xc-0xf), which prevents nicknames from being assigned. • SNMP walk on fabric switches takes a long time due to pending link deregistration requests. • Duplicate Port WWN Alarms are seen if two devices with the same port name are present at the same time.
Important information This section provides important information about the H-series switches. • When launching QuickTools, some Java versions erroneously launch a popup window indicating a possible vulnerability. To launch QuickTools, do not select option to block components. • Changing the password for the images account causes firmware updates and support file creation to fail.
• QuickTools stops responding after changing the switch IP address. If you change the IP address of a switch when using QuickTools to access that switch, the QuickTools session at the old IP address stops responding. To access the switch with the new IP address using QuickTools, enter the new IP address in a new browser window. • Java must be enabled in the browser for QuickTools to launch. If Java support or Java scripting support is disabled in the browser, QuickTools will not launch.
• Fabrics that cross time zones. If you have fabrics that cross time zones, be aware that it causes time stamp differences in the various switch logs. • Changing date/time. If you are not using NTP to manage the date/time and manually change the date/time and then change the time zone, the subsequent date/time will be incorrect. To avoid this, change the time zone first and then the date/time. • Security Secrets are not included when a switch configuration is restored.

Using the CLI To determine the current version of firmware using the CLI: 1. Log in to the switch through a Telnet session using the switch IP address. 2. Issue the show version command. The firmware version is displayed. NOTE: The firmware version displayed by the switch is slightly modified. The switch removes leading zeros in any of the places in the firmware version number. For example, firmware version 8.0.14.08.00 is displayed as 8.0.14.8.0 by the switch.
