Storage Mirroring Reporting Center user guide 9
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center overview
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center (SMRC) is a centralized reporting and analysis solution that allows
users to access detailed, custom analyses, reports, and monitoring of all Storage Mirroring servers in the
environment. Storage Mirroring Reporting Center reports, analyses, and dashboards provide the ability to
show the overall effectiveness of Storage Mirroring protection over time and to analyze trends in a data
protection scheme.
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center has the following components:
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server” on page 9, including storage database
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center GUI” on page 9
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server
The Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server performs monitoring of all Storage Mirroring servers in the
environment, and stores configuration, status, and performance data in a relational database. The Storage
Mirroring Reporting Center server monitors all of the data that is gathered for a variety of conditions and
generates alerts when these occur. The server can be installed on a server that has Storage Mirroring
installed on it, or on a separate machine.
You can either install the SQL Express 2005 database engine that is packaged with Storage Mirroring
Reporting Center, or connect the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server to an existing Microsoft SQL
2000 or SQL 2005 server.
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center GUI
The Storage Mirroring Reporting Center GUI is a Graphical User Interface that is used to configure the
product and to run reports. The GUI is installed automatically on the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center
server when the server component is installed, but it may also be installed on other machines in the
environment to allow users on other machines to connect to the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server
and run reports.
