HP StorageWorks 1000/1500 Modular Smart Array application note: Migrating to active/active controllers in Linux environments (400681-002, October 2006)

6
Upgrading the MSA
NOTE: Before performing these migration steps, complete all prerequisites. (See Preparing for the
migration.)
Step Description Check
1 Notify all system units in the MSA SAN fabric that the MSA is going offline.
F
2
Back up all operating system and data volumes.
F
3
Verify successful backup of the operating system and data volumes.
F
4
Isolate the MSA from the network. Be sure to:
Disable all applications (including daemons, cron jobs, and cluster services).
Unmount the MSA volumes on all systems with access to the MSA.
F
5
For environments currently using Secure Path:
NOTE: Before proceeding, understand the following:
HP Secure Path software can no longer be used to manage the MSA.
QLogic HBA failover driver is the only recognized method for managing
redundancy on active/active MSA in Linux environments.
This step runs a utility that prepares MSA LUNs currently managed by Secure Path
for the Qlogic failover driver. This utility enables a smooth transition of the MSA
from Secure Path and ensures that applications using the MSA do not require any
configuration changes.
This utility creates the
/opt/hp/hp-devlabel directory and copies scripts
necessary for migrations. It also copies operating-system-specific binaries and
scripts to the
/usr/bin/hp and /sbin system directories.
In addition to removing Secure Path and migrating the LUNs, this utility adds
persistency to the LUNs. This information is maintained in
/etc/sysconfig/hpdevlabel. HP recommends that you do not edit this file.
a. Log on to the Linux system as a super user (root).
b. Navigate to the temporary directory containing LMPutils.tar.gz.
(See Preparing for the migration.)
c. Enter the following commands to extract and install the hpdevlabel utility:
# tar -zxvf LMPutils.tar.gz
# cd ./LMPutils
# ./install.sh
d. Wait for the Linux Lun Migration and Lun Persistence installer menu to display.
e. At the menu prompt, enter: 1 Lun Migration with Lun persistency.
f. View the display for status and completion messages, and then proceed to the
step 6 in these instructions. The latest supported Qlogic failover driver is
installed and activated in later steps of these migration procedures.
