Fabric Manager is tightly integrated with other HP SAN management products, such as Advanced Web Tools and Fabric Watch. Organizations can also use Fabric Manager with such other leading SAN and storage resource management applications as the drill-down element manager for single or multiple HP fabrics. Highlights • Provision, monitor, and administer large numbers of switches and multiple HP SAN fabrics with greater efficiency.
• Device Diagnostics Wizard: Helps administrators troubleshoot connectivity or configuration issues between any devices in the SAN. A detailed report provides the administrator with a complete list of potential problems or verification of correct operation. • Two new reports: The Fabric Summary and Physical Inventory reports provide SAN administrators quick access to valuable information. • RADIUS configuration: Fully integrated with RADIUS to provide centralized authentication.
• Fabric Manager 5.x is supported on Japanese, German, and other non-English operating systems. Most of the displayed text is in English, but some of the message strings and dates appear in the local language. Operating system support Fabric Manager 5.x is recommended for all environments. Table 1 summarizes the versions of HP firmware and software that are supported with this release.
Important notes See the HP StorageWorks Fabric Manager 5.x administrator guide for details regarding the features specified in Table 2. Table 2 Important notes Issue Description MP Router as launch switch Do not use the MP Router as the launch switch unless it is the only switch in your fabric. If you do use the MP Router as the launch switch, physical inventory data for all other switches in that fabric will be incomplete.
Table 2 Important notes (continued) Issue Description End-to-end performance monitoring for FOS 4.1.2 to 4.2.2b Issue: For switches running Fabric OS 4.1.2 to 4.2.2b, the PSD might crash after enabling end-to-end performance monitoring from Fabric Manager 4.4 and later. This could lead to a switch reboot or failover. Fabric discovery If you use Fabric OS 4.4.0c or earlier 4.
Table 2 Important notes (continued) Issue Description HBA firmware download When using Fabric Manager to download firmware to the HBA, in some cases invalid firmware files are downloaded to the HBA. This causes the operation to report that it has finished successfully. The firmware, however, is corrupted when rebooted. This is not an HP issue. The HBA does not discriminate and will load any files, even if they are not meant to be loaded.
Table 2 Important notes (continued) Issue Description Memory leak and reboot due to performance monitoring Issue: Enabling performance monitoring causes a memory leak on switches running Fabric OS 3.2.1a. The memory leak eventually causes the switches to panic. Performance monitoring port statistics Issue: On Fabric OS 4.2.0b or earlier, the performance monitoring port statistics are returned incorrectly. Workaround: Upgrade all switches running Fabric OS 3.x to a Fabric OS version later than 3.1.2.
Table 2 Important notes (continued) Issue Description Solaris 9 Issue: Problem with the setting of PATH after Fabric Manager installation. Workaround: Append :${PATH} to the end of the PATH definition in the ~./profile file and then execute bash --login or re-log in to the system. SQL errors in installer log file The installer.log file reports a few errors that are not problems with the integrity of the database. The only critical error message is Failed to connect to database.
Issues in Fabric Manager 5.x Table 3 lists issues corrected since the last Fabric Manager release. Table 3 Closed issues in release 5.x Summary Reported in Fabric Manager release Memory leak in Fabric Manager serve process under Windows. Seen once while Port Stats feature is enabled. The Fabric Manager process memory usage may grow when the Port Stats feature is enabled and the server may restart. 4.2.
Table 3 14 Closed issues in release 5.x (continued) Summary Reported in Fabric Manager release When aliases are present in the defined zone configuration with the same name as the effective zone configuration, an incorrect warning is displayed during LSAN creation. The effective and defined configurations are displayed as different when there are no differences. 4.4.
