1 EZSwitchSetup software and hardware requirements EZSwitchSetup software and hardware requirements You can run EZSwitchSetup on a SAN host computer or you can use a different computer that is not part of the SAN, such as a laptop. EZSwitchSetup requires a browser that conforms to HTML version 4.0, JavaScript version 1.0, and Java Plug-in 1.6.0 or higher. The EZSwitchSetup installation CD automatically installs the correct Java Runtime Environment (JRE). This does not impact any pre-installed JREs.

1 Language support for EZSwitchSetup Language support for EZSwitchSetup The EZSwitchSetup wizard and the Switch Manager interface display the following languages: • • • • • • • • • • English (default) Brazilian Portuguese French German Italian Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Spanish Traditional Chinese When you launch EZSwitchSetup, the interface detects the operating system and language environment and installs and displays the appropriate language.

Powering up and connecting cables to the switch 2 The EZSwitchSetup wizard launches, as shown in Figure 4 and gives you a choice between setting the switch’s IP address using an Ethernet connection to your LAN or a serial connection. FIGURE 4 EZSwitchSetup Wizard Powering up and connecting cables to the switch The next step is to power up and connect cables to the switch, as directed by the EZSwitchSetup wizard.
2 Powering up and connecting cables to the switch 3. Connect the serial cable from the Brocade switch to your setup computer. A serial cable is shipped with the switch. If you cannot locate the serial cable that came with the switch, you will need to find one that has the appropriate connectors. Some switches use a female-to-female, DB9 connector, and other use and RJ45 connector. Do not a null-modem cable. The serial connection settings are: The Brocade 4900 and 5000 series uses RJ45 connectors.
Powering up and connecting cables to the switch 2 EZSwitchSetup attempts to discover or connect to the switch across the serial cable. If the connection is successful, the Set Switch IP Address screen is displayed. If your switch discovery fails, see Table 2 on page 15 for details on how to recover your switch. Powering up and connecting the cable for Ethernet setup 1. Connect the power cord to the switch and plug in to a power source.

From the drop-down list, (see Figure 8 on page 12) choose the Brocade switch’s WWN prefix numbers and then enter the last six alphanumeric digits of your switch’s WWN. Each two alphanumeric digits has to be separated by a colon. To locate the WWN for your switch, refer to “Getting technical help” on page ix. EZSwitchSetup attempts to connect to the switch across the Ethernet cable using UDP. If the connection is successful, the Set Switch IP Address screen is displayed.
Setting the switch IP address FIGURE 7 2 EZSwitchSetup Confirmation Step 5. Click Continue on the Confirmation screen. A browser window opens and loads the EZSwitchSetup switch configuration wizard. This process may take a few minutes. The wizard launches and the Switch Configuration Welcome screen is displayed.

When EZSwitchSetup discovers the switch, it displays the IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) on the screen. If you have a DHCP server on the same subnet as the Brocade switch, the IP address is the one provided by the DHCP server. If you do not have a DHCP server, the default or existing IP address configuration is displayed. 4.
Setting the switch IP address FIGURE 9 2 Assign a static IP Setting a static IP address If you need to set up a static IP address, take the following steps. 1. Select Yes under Do you want to set a static IP address to the switch? (see Figure 9). 2. Click Continue. A dialog box is displayed. 3. Enter the static IP addresses you want to use. 4. Click Continue. EZSwitchSetup verifies that the IP addresses are available to use on the network and sets the IP addresses on to the switch.

If EZSetup does not launch, launch it manually by specifying the URL in a browser: http:// Switch discovery failure During the setup of your switch, the switch discovery may fail. There may be several reasons why switch discovery fails.
Configuring the switch TABLE 2 2 Discovery recovery Symptom Correction The setup computer COM port is busy. The port is being controlled by another communications program. Stop all other third-party communications programs. The port settings are in conflict with another device. Check your IRQ settings. On Windows systems: By default, COM1 and COM3 use IRQ4, while COM2 and COM4 use IRQ3. If another device is sharing the IRQ of the port, you need to change the IRQ of the conflicting device.

Make sure to record your password and keep it in a secure location for future reference. 2. Optional: Enter a new name for the switch and set the correct date and time. 3. Click Next. The Select Zoning screen is displayed. Selecting zoning The next step in configuring your switch is to select zoning.
Selecting zoning 2 • Custom Zoning allows you to customize which initiators access which targets, but you do not want to configure the zones yourself. The HBAs and storage devices should already be connected to the switch. Custom Zoning provides a device accessibility matrix for you to modify; it then automatically creates zones based on that matrix. Custom Zoning supports only single-switch fabrics.
2 Connecting devices and completing the setup Specifying devices On the Specify Devices screen (Figure 13), do the following. 1. Enter the number of HBA connections that are currently connected to the switch. You can change this setting later if you want to add or remove HBA connections. 2. Enter the number of storage connections you are currently connected to the switch. You can change this setting later if you want to add or remove storage connections.

Install the small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers in the Fibre Channel ports shown onscreen. (See Figure 15 on page 20). a. You are now ready to configure the storage component of the SAN using the documentation that came with the storage server. If you want to monitor the switch, then you need to launch the EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager. See Chapter 3, “Managing Your Switch” for instructions on using this interface.

The tasks are categorized by Switch, Devices, Zoning, and Miscellaneous.
About the switch manager 3 The Miscellaneous tasks include refreshing the onscreen data, advanced management of the switch, and logging out. The switch’s Port Information page is shown by default when Switch Manager launches. Switch View The Switch View displays the switch and status buttons across the top. The status buttons enables access to each element listed. Click the refresh icon in the Miscellaneous Task to update the information on the screen with the current switch information.
3 Launching the EZSwitchSetup switch manager Launching the EZSwitchSetup switch manager You can launch Switch Manager on any workstation with a compatible Web browser installed. For a list of Web browsers compatible with Fabric OS v6.1, see Table 1 on page 2. Switch Manager also supports the HTTPS protocol, if that protocol is enabled for the switch. For more information on enabling the HTTPS protocol on your switch, see the Fabric OS Administrator’s Guide. 1.
Switch manager sessions user 3 You can view switch information, but cannot make any changes, including zoning changes. the EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager interface launches if the switch is already set up and is configured with EZSwitchSetup. If not, Web Tools launches, if a Web Tools license is enabled. Switch Manager supports only single-switch fabrics. If your switch is connected to another switch, Switch Manager displays a message and exits.
3 Managing the switch Figure 20 displays the Switch View for a Brocade 200E switch. The Switch View differs depending on the type of switch. FIGURE 20 Graphical View of Switch Switch view The Switch View is a real-time view of switch and port status. The display is updated approximately once every 15 seconds.
Managing the switch 3 Viewing the status indicator legend To view the legend for the status indicators, click the Legend button. The legend dialog box opens. Figure 21 shows the status indicators that can appear on the fan, temperature, or power supply button. The associated dialog box opens.
3 Managing the switch The power supply dialog displays the number of power supplies in the switch and their status. FIGURE 24 Power supply status Port status The Switch View displays port graphics with blinking LEDs, simulating the physical appearance of the ports. Two LEDs are associated with each port: one of the LEDs indicates port status; the other indicates port speed. For LED information, see the hardware documentation for the switch you are viewing.
Managing the switch 3 Hover the cursor over the port icon to view the port number, port type, and port status, as shown in Figure 26. Managing the switch 3 Enable inactive ports EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager allows you to enable Ports On Demand (POD) if you have a license available. 1. Click Enable Inactive Ports under Switch in the task panel. A dialog box is displayed. FIGURE 30 Add Ports On Demand 2. Enter the license key to add the additional ports. 3. Click Add. The ports are now enabled.
3 Managing devices Managing devices 1. Click View under Devices in the task panel to display a table of information for all of the connected devices (see Figure 31 below). The entries in the table are based on the device WWNs, so a single physical device can have more than one entry in the table.

Click Display Connections under Devices in the task panel. A graphical representation of the switch and connections displays, as shown in Figure 33 on page 36. This is a real-time display; the connections are updated automatically as you connect and disconnect HBAs and storage.
3 Managing devices FIGURE 33 Display Connections Page Assigning and renaming device aliases Every device has a device name and an alias name. Alias names make it easier to reference the devices. Alias names are displayed in the zone access map on the Zoning page. You can assign or rename the alias names using the following procedure. 1. Click Modify Alias under Devices in the task panel. This launches the Define Device Alias wizard.
Managing zoning FIGURE 34 3 Define Device Aliases Wizard 2. Double-click a field in the New Alias column to edit that alias. 3. Click OK when you are done. The wizard also prompts you to delete the aliases of any offline devices. Follow the instructions in the wizard. Managing zoning Zoning enables you to partition your fabric into logical groups of devices that can access each other.
3 Managing zoning For more specific information about zoning concepts, see the Fabric OS Administrator’s Guide. Viewing the zone view 1. Click View under Zoning in the task panel. The zone view displays (shown in Figure 35), indicating which HBAs can access which storage devices. The HBA and storage device names displayed in the matrix are the alias names of the devices (see “Assigning and renaming device aliases” on page 36 for additional information).
Managing zoning 3 • Custom zoning Custom zoning allows you to customize which HBAs can access which storage devices for a single switch using a zoning matrix in the Switch Manager. You must connect all devices (HBA and storage) to the switch before configuring zoning. Switch Manager then automatically generates zones based on the zoning matrix. Choose Custom zoning if you have a single-switch fabric, the devices are already connected, and you want to customize how the HBAs access the storage devices.

The first panel in the wizard displays a graphic view of the existing device connections. You must connect all of the devices to the switch at this time. The wizard automatically verifies the configuration, and generates the appropriate zones. The HBA/Storage accessibility matrix is displayed; you can change the zoning configuration if you choose to.
Accessing Web Tools for advanced management 3 3. Note any devices that are not zoned properly and, after exiting the wizard, click Edit to update the zone configuration. Restoring Typical Zoning If you have modified your zoning configuration and want to reset the configuration back to the default Typical zoning configuration, use the following procedure: 1. Click Restore Default Typical Zoning under Zoning in the task panel 2. Click Yes in the confirmation window.
