HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

Managed sets
A managed set is a named collection of resources, carrying the same characteristics and banded
together for convenient management. For example, the managed set Sales_Disks includes two
virtual disks, West_Sales and East_Sales.
Performing an action on a managed set performs the action on all of its members. For example,
if you perform the New Snapshot action on the managed set Sales_Disks, the replication manager
creates a snapshot of West_Sales and a snapshot of East_Sales.
You can use the GUI or command-line user interface (CLUI) to create a managed set of resources.
See the HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager online help for instructions.
Host agents
Replication manager host agents are operating system-specific components that you install on
application servers (called hosts). Host agents enable you to mount virtual disks, specify host
volumes for replication, and run jobs that interact with host applications. Hosts with replication
manager host agents are called enabled hosts.
Online help
The replication manager online help is a cross-platform, browser-based application that offers the
following types of help:
Book help. The main help (user guide) is accessed by clicking Help on the replication manager
toolbar. Information is organized topically and is accessible by Contents, Index, and Search
tabs.
Context-sensitive help. Context-sensitive help is accessed by clicking a question-mark icon or
Help button in a window, and is specific to that window.
The replication manager online help includes the following features:
Contents tab. Displays the help contents. The contents are organized into books and topic
pages.
Index tab. Displays an index of topics.
Search tab. Displays a list of topics that contain the words you search for.
NOTE: To ensure that the online help works properly, select Bypass proxy server for local
addresses when configuring the LAN settings.
HP P6000 Continuous Access and P6000 DC-Management
When running HP P6000 DC-Management with HP P6000 Continuous Access, you must ensure
that HP P6000 DC-Management is installed on both local and remote management servers running
the replication manager.
HP P6000 DC-Management provides the capability to extend (increase) or shrink (decrease) the
size of a host volume without disrupting host I/O on supported operating systems.
Local replication concepts
Local replication is a licensed feature of HP arrays that allows you to create local copies of your
application data. There are three types of local replication copies: snapshots, snapclones, and
mirrorclones. Local replication requires an HP P6000 Business Copy license installed on the array.
Snapshots
A snapshot is a dependent, point-in-time copy of a virtual disk. It is dependent because data is not
actually copied to the snapshot until it is overwritten on the source. Use snapshots when you need
temporary copies; for example, to create a copy of a database that you then store on tape.
