HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

4. Count the number of /dev/sg files that end in numeric values. (The /dev/sg files that end
in alphabetic characters are links to the numeric versions and are not used.)
5. If there are fewer /dev/sg files (from Step 4) than devices (from Step 2), run makesg.sh,
specifying the total number of devices. You need one /dev/sg device file for each SCSI
device, including direct-attached SCSI devices, SAN arrays, and each LUN presented to the
host.
The makesg.sh utility creates missing /dev/sg device files up to the number specified. The
nl
/dev/sg files that already exist are not affected.
Resolving suspended SUSE Linux host agent
If a SUSE Linux host becomes unresponsive during a job containing the CreateHostVolume
command, the host agent may have suspended waiting for the hp_rescan utility to complete. To
confirm this, check the status of the hp_rescan utility in the host process list. If the utility appears
to be suspended, reboot the host.
IMPORTANT: Take precautions to minimize the effects of a shutdown on users and on running
and scheduled jobs.
HP P6000 DC-Management Linux requirements and considerations
Manual offline HP P6000 DC-Management is supported. Taking the volume offline requires
that it be unmounted. Online resizing and DC-Management policies are not supported with
Linux.
Logical Volume Manager (LVM) volume groups are not supported.
Nonpartitioned (whole) disks are supported. Partitioned disks are not supported.
HP P6000 DC-Management is supported on RHEL AS 5.1 or later, and SLES 10 SP1 or later,
and SLES 11 SP2.
EXT2 and EXT3 file systems are supported. Veritas File System (VxFS) is not supported.
Extend and shrink are supported.
OpenVMS
OpenVMS filters devices that do not support direct Business Copy replication, such as bound
volume sets, shadow sets, RAID, and striping.

Sun Solaris
This section describes special replication procedures for Sun Solaris hosts.
Configuring Sun Solaris hosts with MPxIO
To fully enable replication manager jobs on Sun Solaris hosts using MPxIO, you must add a line
to the SCSI VHCI configuration file in the Solaris kernel. Navigate to the file /kernel/drv/
scsi_vhci.conf and add the following line to the end of the file:
ddi-forceattach=1;
Save and close the file.
