1 Preparation This chapter describes the contents of the software CDs and downloads and explains the prerequisites for installing HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager (the replication manager). IMPORTANT: HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager (formerly HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager) supports all HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) models. General references to HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager may also refer to earlier versions of HP Replication Solutions Manager.
• Ensure that the TEMP environment variable points to the existing TEMP folder. • You can install replication manager server and host agent software on a domain system or on a cluster node.
IP configurations The replication manager is designed for use with IP versions as follows: • HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager 4.0.1 or later—IPv4, IPv6, and mixed IPv4/IPv6 networks • HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager 4.0 or earlier—IPv4 networks only To enable communication between HP P6000 Command View and the replication manager using IPv6, you must configure HP P6000 Command View and HP SMI-S for IPv6.
Please enter your choice :1 Enter the IP address of CommandView :::1 Enter the CommandView username :administrator Enter the CommandView password : Operation in progress....Please wait.... Setting credentials Setting credentials requires that local or domain groups are created on the servers where you will install the replication manager server software and host software. Each group must contain at least one user.
Host server credentials Setting credentials on the host server is optional. During the installation process, you will be prompted about host-based authentication. If you choose to set credentials prior to the installation, you must enable this feature at this prompt in the installation process. NOTE: Enabling or disabling host-based authentication is allowed only during a first-time installation. You will be unable to change host-based authentication during subsequent upgrades.
3. After installing the latest version of server software and host agent software, import the database: a. Double-click the RSM desktop icon to open the replication manager. b. Select File→Import RSM Database. The Import RSM Database dialog box opens. c. d. e. f. 10 Preparation Enter the full path of the exported database file (entered in Step 2) and click OK. When the database import is complete, click OK. In the replication manager interface window, select Enabled Hosts in the navigation pane.
2 Server software This chapter describes how to install, remove, upgrade, and verify the server software. Installing the server software The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\; however, you can install the server software in another directory. CAUTION: Do not abort the replication manager installation or close the session before the installation is complete. Doing so creates incomplete data in files and directories and will cause subsequent installations to fail.
10. Enter the domain and group names for the storage administrators group, if not already created, and then click Next. NOTE: When entering names, note the following: • Use the shortened DNS format for the domain name. For example, enter americas, not americas.mycompany.com. • Valid characters for names are A–Z, a–z, 0–9, and -(hyphen). • Invalid characters for names are \ / [ ] : ; | = + , * ? < >. • The maximum length of the domain name is 63 characters.
Upgrade and reinstallation tips When upgrading or reinstalling the server software, consider the following: • If upgrading on a machine that has only HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager version 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 installed, or version 5.6 (in case of reinstallation), you must: 1. Remove the installed version of the replication manager with the option of exporting the database. 2. Install HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Version 5.6 and import the database.
• Use Windows Add or Remove Programs to remove the software. You can remove the server software remotely (using remote connection software) or locally. When removing the server software remotely, use Terminal Services to access the management server and log in.
3 Host agent software This chapter describes how to install and remove the host agent software, which must be installed on every host that interacts with the replication manager. Operating system requirements This section describes requirements for installing the host agent software by operating system. HP-UX Before installing the host agent software, install JRE 1.4. If the recommended JRE version is not found, the installation stops and displays a message.
HP Tru64 UNIX Before installing the host agent software on an HP Tru64 UNIX host, ensure that: • CXX 7.1 runtime libraries are installed on the HP Tru64 UNIX host. Download the libraries from ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/C-CXX/tru64/cxx/CXXREDIST710.tar. You can install the libraries before or after installing the host agent software, but they must be installed before you start the replication manager.
Windows Before installing the host agent software on a Windows host, you must: • Have system administrator authority on the server on which you want to install the host agent software. • Install the appropriate SNIA libraries for Windows. Go to the software downloads page of the HP Business Support Center website (http://www.hp.com/support/downloads), and then select your product. Installing the host agent software To install the host agent software: 1.

Upgrading the host agent software For information about upgrade paths, see the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference.
For Windows hosts To remove the host agent software, use Add or Remove Programs. For UNIX or Linux hosts To remove the host agent software: 1. Open a command window and navigate to the _uninst directory. For example, the default directory is: opt/Hewlett-Packard/RSMHostSW/_uninst/ 2. Enter the following command: ./uninstall.bin Alternatively, open a command window and enter the following command to start the software removal: ./uninstall.
4 Troubleshooting This chapter describes known problems and suggested resolutions for troubleshooting the software installation.
Insufficient space in the temporary directory When you install the replication manager, the contents of the .jar file are extracted to a temporary directory. If there is insufficient space in the directory, this error can occur. Resolution: If you do not know whether the temporary directory has sufficient space to complete the installation, you can specify an alternate directory as follows: 1. Open a command window. 2.
User interface does not open The user interface does not open after starting the replication manager software. This can occur if Terminal Services is not configured for administrator mode. Resolution: Using Add or Remove Programs, remove the replication manager software from the management server and install the software again. See “Server software” (page 11) for instructions.
