4.0.0 HP Polyserve Matrix Server Release Notes (T5392-96051, March 2010)

Matrix Server
DescriptionIssue
Network interfaces are marked Up and then Down repeatedly
The status of network interfaces may change between Up and Down about every five seconds
when there is only one server in the matrix and no other IP address is available to ping. This situation
can occur when a two-node cluster loses a node or the node is removed from service.
The problem appears only if the only gateway address to ping is the interface IP address (that is,
there is not a route to an outside network). This scenario is unlikely to occur in practice, as there will
likely be many clients connected to the clustered server via a client network.
However, the problem can occur in laboratory or test conditions. To avoid the problem, add a router
to the PAN network.

Management Console does not display filesystems created when Matrix Server was not running
If Matrix Server is not running while a PSFS filesystem is created with the psfsformat -f command,
the filesystem will not be displayed on the PolyServe Management Console.
Workaround. Start the Matrix Server service before creating the filesystem.

Filesystem mounts may disappear temporarily while a node is booting
While a node in the matrix is booting, the PolyServe Management Console can show filesystem
mounts disappearing and then reappearing on other nodes. This is an artifact of the matrix responding
to a new node joining the matrix and causes no harm.

SNMP dies on QLogic SANbox2 FC switches
In a matrix with a QLogic SANbox2 FibreChannel switch, SNMP can die periodically. When this
occurs, servers cannot be fenced, and servers that have already been fenced cannot unfence
themselves.
To recover, go to Admin mode on the switch and then run the hotreset command:
admin start
admin> hotreset
The hotreset command resets the switch. (Before the switch is reset, all running applications save
their FibreChannel state. That information is then used by the applications when the switch comes
back up.)
If the matrix does not recover on its own after the switch is reset, you may need to reboot the affected
servers or restart Matrix Server on them.

Legato NetWorker volume shadow copy not supported
Matrix Server does not currently support the manner in which Legato NetWorker 7.1.1 uses volume
shadow copies. We recommend that you configure NetWorker so that it will not use shadow copies.
One way to do this is to choose Options > Save Options in the NetWorker client, and then type
VSS:*=off in the options box.

Reinstalling Matrix Server with an evaluation license requires new configuration
A Matrix Server configuration created with an evaluation license cannot be used if Matrix Server is
reinstalled with an evaluation license. When uninstalling Matrix Server, do not check the Keep the
existing Matrix Server configuration option. This option prohibits the use of the evaluation license
provided with the Matrix Server distribution.
