HP StorageWorks HSG80 ACS Solution Software V8.8 for HP-UX Installation and Configuration Guide (AA-RV1FA-TE, March 2005)

Preparing the Host System
110 HSG80 ACS Solution Software V8.8 for HP-UX Installation and Configuration Guide
Making a Physical Connection
Your new storage system components must be initially configured using a serial
cable connection to the HSG80 array controllers. You can change the following
settings: SCSI-2 or SCSI-3 mode, CCL enabled or disabled, and Transparent or
Multibus Failover mode. The controllers are preset to SCSI-2 mode, CCL
enabled, and Transparent Failover mode. For HP-UX, SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 modes
are supported with ACS 8.8-1 (SCSI-3 mode is supported only with Multiple-Bus,
which, in turn, requires Secure Path).
To attach a host computer to the storage subsystem, install one or more host bus
adapters into the computer. A Fibre Channel (FC) cable goes from the host bus
adapter to an FC switch.
Preparing to Install Host Bus Adapter
Fibre Channel (FC) mass storage host bus adapters (HBAs) manufactured by
HP/QLogic can be used with the storage subsystem and your HP platform.
The supported HP HBAs are:
A5158A, 32/64-bit, 1 Gbps FC PCI;
A6685A, 32/64-bit, 1 Gbps FC HSC;
A6795A, 32/64-bit, 2 Gbps FC PCI;
Install the HBA in your HP system using the instructions provided in the HBA
documentation before preparing the system to interface with the subsystem.
Before installing the host bus adapter, perform the following steps:
1. Perform a complete backup of the entire system.
2. Shut down the computer system or perform a hot addition of the adapter based
upon directions for that server.
Note the following limitations regarding HBA usage:
Fibre Channel Switch (FC-SW) connectivity is supported with HP A5158A
and HP A6685A, and HP A6795A FC Adapters configured with HSG80
controllers, but only in multiple-bus failover mode. In order to have
multiple-bus failover work properly, Secure Path software is required.
Host Bus Adapter and Driver
Ensure that you have the required FC HBA and drivers available to your system by
issuing the following command, based on HBA type:
