2 Locating the instructions for your

librar y’s conﬁguration

This tape module k it can be used to add an LTO4 (Ultrium 1840) tape

drive to a library or replace an existing LTO 2 (Ultrium 460), LTO3

(Ultrium 960) or LTO4 tape drive.

Special steps are needed when adding the ﬁrst LTO4 tape driv e to a

librar y that only contains LTO2 or LTO3 tape drives and when replacing

an LTO2 or LTO3 tape drive with a LTO4 tape drive.

To install this LTO4 tape drive, go to the section of this guide containing

the procedure for your situation:

• Sec t ion 3: Adding an LTO4 tape drive to a library that already

has an LTO4 tape drive.

• Sec t ion 4: Adding an LTO4 tape drive to a library without any LTO4

tape drives installed.

• Sec t ion 5: Replacing an LTO2 or LTO3 tape drive in a library that

already has an LTO4 tape drive.

• Sec t ion 6: Replacing an LTO2 or LTO3 tape drive in a library without

any LTO4 tape drives installed.

• Sec t ion 7: Replacing an LTO4 tape drive.

See the HP StorageWorks Interface Manager and Command View TL User’s Guide for detailed procedures. Ensure that the tape drive has the latest firmware for correct operation.

4.6 Connect the cables 1 4.10 Verify connectivity 2 11567 1) Connect the FC cable to port A on the new drive. The FC cable connector clicks into place. Connect the other end of the FC cable to its corresponding port on the SAN. Attach a label to each end of the cable to mark the port designations. 2) Insert the Ethernet cable included with the tape drive into the MGMT port on the new drive. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the internal network switch installed in the library.

5 Replacing an LTO2 or LTO3 tape drive in a library that already has an LTO4 tape drive 5.1 Record library settings Replacing an LTO2 or LTO3 tape drive with an LTO4 tape drive requires all host mapping, partitioning, access control, and FC speed settings to be cleared out and manually re-entered at the end of the replacement procedure. In preparation for this, use Command View TL or the Interface Manager CLI to write down all these settings before beginning the drive replacement.

Disconnect the other end of the FC cable from the interface controller card. 1 11567 1) Connect the FC cable you removed from the old tape drive to port A on the new drive. The FC cable connector clicks into place. Connect the other end of the FC cable to its corresponding port on the SAN.

7 Replacing an LTO4 tape drive 7.1 Open the library 11562 Identify the tape drive to be replaced. The LED of the drive to be replaced will be off. 10002 CAUTION: Open the back door of the library. To avoid damaging the drive, do not remove it if the LED is still lit. Power off the tape drive from the OCP before removing it.
