To view the current switch name:
From the Root menu (root), type show sysinfo and press E
NTER.
Setting the Switch Location (config/sys/location)
This command sets the switch location. The location is limited to 80 characters and quotation marks
must wrap the entire location if the location contains a space. For example, “Lab #1”.
To change the switch location:
1. From the System Configuration menu (config/sys), type location and press E
NTER.
The current location is displayed in brackets before the command prompt.
2. Type the new location and press E
NTER.
To view the current switch location:
From the Root menu (root), type show sysinfo and press E
NTER.
Setting the Contact Information (config/sys/contact)
This command sets the switch contact information. Contact information may be a name, telephone
number, or web site address. The contact information is limited to 80 characters and quotation marks
must wrap the entire contact information if the contact information contains a space. For example,
“John Smith 425-555-1212”.
To change the switch contact information:
1. From the System Configuration menu (config/sys), type contact and press E
NTER.
The contact information is displayed in brackets before the command prompt.
2. Type the new contact information and press E
NTER.
To view the current switch contact information:
From the Root menu (root), type show sysinfo and press E
NTER.
Displaying Events (config/sys/events)
This command displays the event log entries (up to 3000 messages) generated by the switch. Once
the event log reaches the maximum number of entries, it overwrites the oldest entries in the log with
the latest entries.

To view the event log:
From the System Configuration menu (config/sys), type events and press E
NTER.
Configuring the Event Log Severity Filter (config/sys/sev)
This command sets the event log’s severity filter level. When set, the event log will only record events
that are equal to or higher than the specified severity level. The default setting is 5.
Each event has a particular severity level ranging between “emergency” and “info”. You can
designate the lowest severity level at which to report an event in the event log. For example, if the
severity level for event log reporting is designated as “alert,” then the switch logs messages of the
“alert” or the “emergency” severity level only—“emergency” is the only severity level higher than
“alert”.
To change the event log severity level:
1. From the System Configuration menu (config/sys), type sev and press E
NTER.
The current severity level value is displayed in brackets before the command prompt.
2. Type the desired selection (1-7) and press E
NTER.
