HP EVA4000/6000/8000 and EVA4100/6100/8100 Updating Product Software Guide (XCS 6.250) (5697-1716, February 2012)

e. If critical events have occurred within the last 48 hours, perform the steps outlined in the
corrective action codes to correct the problems. In some cases, you may need to call your
HP-authorized service representative.
CAUTION: If any critical events have occurred within the last 48 hours, do not proceed with
the upgrade until the situation is resolved.
5. Verify that no changes to the storage system configuration are in progress. Use proactive
notification to alert you if a critical event occurs during the 48 hours before the upgrade. Do
not make any configuration changes within 48 hours of the upgrade.
NOTE:
The leveling process does not impact the upgrade. Leveling is suspended during the
upgrade and resumed when the upgrade is complete.
Suspend any processes or applications that may change the storage system configuration.
Step 2. Configuring User-Initiated Service Mode (UISM)
Estimated time to complete: 10–15 minutes
To avoid generating unnecessary events and alerts during the upgrade, enable UISM in HP P6000
Command View (requires version 9.3 or later). This will be used by HP Insight Remote Support to
indicate the array is in service mode.
1. Open HP P6000 Command View and select the array for which you want to enable UISM.
2. Select System options.
3. Select Configure User-Initiated Service Mode (UISM) under the Service section. The Configuring
User-Initiated Service Mode window opens.
4. In the Reason box, enter text to indicate that you are updating the controller software.
NOTE: This is a free form field.
5. If desired, verify and change the amount of time you expect the array to remain in service
mode. The default is 30 minutes.
6. Select Start service mode to notify HP Insight Remote Support that the array will be in service
mode.
If you are running an earlier version of HP P6000 Command View, complete the following steps
to disable Remote Support software:
1. On the management server, open a command window.
2. Enter the following command to stop Remote Support Software:
C:\>net stop desta_service
3. Enter exit.
Step 3. Disabling storage system passwords
Estimated time to complete: 10–15 minutes
If you use passwords on the controllers, use the following procedure to disable or clear them.
NOTE: When you clear a system password on the controller, you must also disable password
access to the storage system in HP P6000 Command View. The two work in conjunction with one
another.
