HP StorageWorks File System Extender Software V3.4 CLI reference (T3648-96013, October 2006)

2.13 NAME 103
THE RESTORE PROCESS The restore process performs the following steps:
1. According to the specified restore source, one or more backup images are
copied from disk (local or remote disk volume or share) or tape (FSE
medium in the backup FSE media pool) and temporarily stored in FSE disk
buffer.
2. This step depends on whether restore or retrieval of backup images is re-
quested:
If restore is requested, the backup image file is uncompressed and con-
tents of the archive are extracted to the appropriate locations on the
FSE server.
If retrieval of backup images is requested, depending on the options
specified in the command line, backup image files are either preserved
in FSE disk buffer or moved to the specified directory.
Note:
After restore, you need to manually start FSE processes on each host in the
FSE implementation with the command fse –start. External FSE clients
should be started after the consolidated FSE system or FSE server.
ACTIVITY LOGGING fserestore reports its progress to the FSE event log
and FSE restore log. Errors encountered during restore process are reported to the
FSE error log. For location and names of log files, see section FILES.
