Overview This document outlines the required steps to migrate new and existing installations of Novell NetWare MSA environments from a single-controller MSA using active/passive controller firmware to a dual-controller MSA using active/active controller firmware. Active/active feature set: • Supports simultaneous I/O processing on the controllers to provide better performance and high availability. • Supports explicit controller ownership using the MSA Command Line Interface (CLI) and CPQONLIN.
Step Description Check 1 Review or obtain the following documents on the MSA website: F • QuickSpecs • Compatibility Guide • Command Line Interface User Guide MSA 1500 website: http://www.hp.com/go/msa1500cs MSA 1000 website: http://www.hp.com/go/msa1000 2 Obtain the latest active/active controller firmware files (version 6.0 or later) and firmware upgrade guide. F Go to the MSA website, and then click Software, firmware & drivers. MSA 1500 website: http://www.hp.

To activate the multi-pathing feature, the configuration file startup.ncf must be modified by doing the following: Step Description Check 1 Edit c:\nwserver\startup.ncf F 2 Add the following as the first line of the file: F SET MULTI-PATH SUPPORT = ON 3 Modify the line: F LOAD SCSIHD.CDM to LOAD SCSIHD.CDM /AEN 4 QL2x00.
Troubleshooting If the paths are not seen, check the following: Step Description Check 1 Check to ensure that the cables are properly connected to the fabric and hosts. F 2 Verify that multi-path options are set properly as mentioned in ”Upgrading the MSA to active/active” on page 7. F 3 Verify that the controllers are seen by the hosts.
