HP StorageWorks 1000/1500 Modular Smart Array Firmware Updating Guide (370881-001, May 2006)

NOTE:

The following images reﬂect updating a n MSA1500 in a Windows Server 2003

environment. Displays for the MSA1000 or for the Linux operating systems differ.

NOTE:

In dual-controller conﬁgurations, only the active controller (usually controller 1, the

front-right controller) is displayed and updated through the MSA Flash Utilit y. The other

controller is updated (cloned) when the MSA is restarted.

3. View the top-middle portion of the display and identify the components included in the Bundled

Firmware download, including:

•MSAcontrollerﬁrmware version

•MSA20controllerﬁrmware version

• Fan control module ﬁrmware version

4. View the body of the window and identify the MSA controllers tha t were discovered. Look for the

following information:

• MSA type (MSA1000 or MSA1500), serial number, and user-deﬁned name

• Currently installed version of MSA controller ﬁrmware ROM

• Currently installed version of MSA20 controller ﬁrmware ROM

• Currently installed version of fan control module ﬁrmware on each discovered MSA

5. In the displayed list of discovered controllers, select a controller to update.

6. Click an updating option:

• Blink O n/Blink Off: Blink the LEDs on the selected MSA, its attached storage enclosures, and

the h a rd drives.

• Recommended: Flash All Bundled Firmware on Selected MSA1500 and all at tached Devices:

Based on the ﬁrmware items included in the download, update these components on the MSA

and its attached enclosures.

• Flash Ac tive/Standby Controller: Update the ﬁrmware on the selected MSA.

• Flash All Attached MSA20: Update the ﬁrmware on any MSA20 storage enclosures a t tached

to the selected MSA.
