VDS hardware provider
This chapter lists hardware and software components that supp ort the HP MSA VDS hardware p rovider
and explains how to preconfigure the disk array and Windows 2003 servers for use with the hardware
provider. You must comp lete the procedures in this chapter before you install and configure the HP
hardware provider.

The hardwar
e and software components listed below a nd illustrated in Figure 2 are used with the H P
MSA VDS hardware provider and the HP MSA disk array. See the release notes and contact H P Support
for components tested and approved by HP.
Hardware
• HP StorageWorks MSA disk array
• Windows 2003 VDS Server: Contains the Microsoft VDS Ser vice and HP MSA VDS hardware
provider.
• Fibre Channel Host bus adapter (HBA): Installs in the Windows 2003 VDS server to provide FC
connections to the MSA array. The HP MSA VDS hardware provider supports only certain Emulex
and Qlogic H BAs and the SCSI STOR m iniport driver, not SCSI Minipor t.
• Fibre Channel switch and cabling: Connects the HP MSA VDS hardware provider server to the
array using a Fibre Channel SAN. Some arrays have a built-in switch.
