Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot 3 Prerequisites: • Verify that you have the latest version of firmware installed on your system. The system firmware is located under the Support & Drivers section of your servers’ webpage. www.hp.com/go/proliant • For Blade installs verify the iLO firmware is up to date. The iLO firmware is located under the specific server support page at www.hp.com/go/blades • Obtain the latest copy of the ProLiant Support Pack.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot 4 The blade server will now boot to the MSA Support Software CD. • Choose the language and keyboard setting you desire and click Continue. • You will be presented with an End User License Agreement, click Agree to continue. • Click on the Launch Array Configuration Utility image to begin an ACU session. • Select the desired MSA1500 CS Controller on the left and create an appropriate logical disk.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot 5 Configuring the Fibre Channel HBA: Qlogic Adapters: • During the boot process, a Qlogic HBA message is displayed. At the prompt to enter the Fast!util, press ctrl-Q to enter the Fast!util. • In the Select Host Adapter Menu, choose the adapter you want to boot, then press Enter. • In the Fast!Util Options Menu, choose Configuration Settings, then press Enter. • In the Configuration Settings menu, choose Host Adapter Settings, then press Enter.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot • Press 01 -> Enter to select the entry with the LUN that is presented by the MSA1000 • You are prompted to enter in a two-digit LUN number, enter 00 -> Enter. • You are presented with a list of available LUNs visible to the HBA. • Press 01-> Enter to select the first LUN (logical drive 1) on the MSA1000 • You are prompted to select how to boot the device. • Press 1 -> Enter. • You are returned to the list of saved boot devices.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot 7 For those with existing single controller boot from SAN environments this section can be followed to upgrade to a dual controller Active/Active configuration after performing the following tasks: • At a minimum, verify that the HBA drivers are up to date. Or by installing the latest ProLiant Support Pack as described earlier in this document. • Verify the MSA1500 controller firmware for Active/Active is up to date.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot 8 Configure the server BIOS: This step should be performed as described previously in this document and the additional HBA should be moved as far up the boot order as possible.

Configuring the MSA1000 for External Boot changes can alter lun presentation to the host causing it to re-order SCSI devices at boot time. Such changes could cause a boot from san system to panic upon reboot. For Qlogic environments obtain the LUN Persistence and Migration Utility for Linux from the Software Updates page of the HP Secure Path website: http://www.hp.com/go.securepath For Emulex environments HP recommends that you use the Udev utility.
