HP XP7 PA Software Installation Guide

enable the associated performance data collection schedules to automatically collect data for the
new components (RAID groups and ports).
IMPORTANT: If the configuration data collection fails due to an error, the Collection Status displays
. The reason for the error is displayed as a tool tip.
After completing the configuration data collection, start collecting the performance data for the XP
or the XP7 disk array. For more information, see “Collecting performance data” (page 95).
Collecting performance data
IMPORTANT:
The performance data collection does not start if the configuration data collection is in progress.
After the configuration collection is complete, the performance data collection starts
automatically.
You can create only one performance data collection schedule on a selected command device.
For better performance, in an environment where the command device from a single array
port is exposed to a host, select a maximum of two command devices, that belong to different
ports, to achieve the optimal CHIP port (MP) performance utilization during performance data
collection.
A schedule cannot be created for the same XP or XP7 disk array through two different host
agents.
If you select all the seven component types, set a minimum frequency of 15 minutes and a
maximum of 60 minutes.
If configured in an XP, P9000 or an XP7 disk array, it is mandatory that you select all the
continuous access journal, snapshot, and ThP components from the respective component type
lists.
Do not expose a command device to a host from two different ports. It stops the current
performance data collection, as the schedule configured to obtain the collection is automatically
deleted.
If you have performed a one-time configuration data collection and later the XP, P9000 or
the XP7 disk array configuration has changed, HP recommends that you perform a fresh
configuration data collection, so that the performance data collected is for the latest
configuration.
To collect performance data of RAID groups, snapshot, THP, external RAID groups and journal
components, use a command device and a port that is not shared with other critical
applications. This is because collecting performance data for RAID groups is an intensive
operation.
To collect performance data for the other components, you can create another schedule using
a different command device and port.
NOTE: In single path environment, the command device is exposed to a host from single
array port. For better performance, select a maximum of two command devices that belong
to different ports. In a multi path environment , a command device is exposed to a host from
two different array ports.
To schedule a performance data collection:
1. Click Monitoring+Array View in the left pane.
2. Click the Performance Collection tab on the Array View screen.
Alternatively, click an XP, P9000 or an XP7 disk array icon in the Available Arrays section to
view the corresponding set of records highlighted under the Performance Collection tab. The
