1 Overview of Tiered Storage Manager • Tiered Storage Manager features (see section 1-1 ) • Overview of Data Migration (see section 1-2 ) • Tiered Storage Manager configuration (see section 1-3 ) • Tiered Storage Manager components (see section 1-4 ) • System configuration (see section 1-5 ) • Changing user information (see section 1-6 ) 1-1 Tiered Storage Manager Features 1-1-1 Seamless Data Migration Tiered Storage Manager is designed to migrate data between different volumes on a subsystem.
Figure 1-1 Data Lifecycle Management 1-1-3 Improving Efficiency Tiered Storage Manager allows you to improve the efficiency of your storage management in the following ways: • Reducing total cost of ownership. If you migrate data using data lifecycle management, you improve efficiency and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of your storage subsystems. NOTE: You cannot use Tiered Storage Manager to migrate data to a tape device. • Maximizing performance.
4. The reservation on the target volume is removed. 5. Data is deleted from the source volume (when this option is specified). NOTE: Volume reservation is also removed in the following cases: • • When a migration task is canceled When migration task fails If you are unable to remove a volume reservation, refresh the storage subsystem. Figure 1-2 illustrates the migration process.

• Tiered Storage Manager server This server gives instructions for volume migration within a domain controller or within storage subsystems connected via external storage connections, based on information provided from the management client. Also, after migration, the server can completely erase data on the volumes. To use the Tiered Storage Manager server, the Device Manager server must be installed on the same server.

To add Tiered Storage Manager to the Windows Firewall exceptions list: 1.
• The Device Manager server has already been installed on the machine on which you are going to install the Tiered Storage Manager server. • The video resolution of the display is SVGA (800 x 600) or greater. • The Services window, which opens by choosing Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Services, has not opened. • No other applications are running. NOTE: • • For an overwrite or upgrade installation, the current installation folder will be the installation location.
8. Either browse to a desired destination or specify the repository for the storage database files, then select Next. The destination file name has the following requirements: • Specify an absolute path. • You may use a maximum of 104 bytes, including the backslash at the end. • The default file location is \TieredStorageManager\database. Note that if the length of the installation folder is greater that 74 bytes, the default path will exceed 104 bytes.

6. 7. • HiCommandServer • HiCommand Suite Common Web Service • HiCommand Suite Single Sign On Service • HiRDB/ClusterService_HD0 Install the Tiered Storage Manager server on the executing node. Refer to section 2-2-1 for instructions. The following exceptions apply to a cluster installation: • In the Installation Folder Settings window (refer to Figure 2-5), specify a folder in the executing node of the server.
• Possible Owners window. Ensure that the executing and standby nodes have been registered. • Dependencies window. Add the Device Manager resource (HiCommandServer) to the Resource dependencies column. • Generic Service Parameters window. Enter the following information: • 14. 15. • Service name: TieredStorageManager • Startup parameter: None Registry Replication window. None.
9. Verify that the Command View XP AE Suite Common Component has stopped: \bin\hcmdssrv /status 10. Install the Tiered Storage Manager server on the standby node. Refer to section 2-2-1 if you need instructions. 11. Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Services. For each of the following services, open Properties, and then make sure that Startup type is Manual: 12.
8. Uninstall the Tiered Storage Manager server on the standby node. For instructions, refer to section 2-2-4 . 9. In Cluster Administrator, switch from the standby node to the executing node by right-clicking the resource group where the Device Manager service is registered, and then selecting Move Group. 10. Make sure that Command View XP AE Suite Common Component has stopped: \bin\hcmdssrv /status 11.
5. On the executing node, create the cluster settings file cluster.conf using a text editor. Following are the items to be specified for the cluster settings file: • mode: online (indicating the executing node) • virtualhost: Logical host name • onlinehost: Host name on the executing node • standbyhost: Host name on the standby node NOTE: When specifying a host name in the cluster settings file, you cannot specify an IP address.

3 Maintaining the Tiered Storage Manager Server This chapter discusses the following topics: • Starting and Stopping the Tiered Storage Manager server (see section 3-1 ) • Managing the Tiered Storage Manager server in a cluster environment (see section 3-2 ) • Backing Up the Repositories (see section 3-3 ) • Restoring the Repositories (see section 3-4 ) 3-1 Starting and Stopping the Tiered Storage Manager Server in a Standard Environment 3-1-1 Starting the Server The Tiered Storage Manager server st
Open the Cluster Administrator, then right-click the Device Manager resource group and select Take Offline. • To switch the Tiered Storage Manager server node manually: Open the Cluster Administrator, then right-click the Device Manager resource group and select Move Group. Tiered Storage Manager uses alias IP addresses to inherit the IP addresses between the nodes in the cluster configuration.
• Total restoration restores the integrated management information for all Command View XP AE Suite software on the server. • Individual restoration restores only the Tiered Storage Manager management information. NOTE: If you do a restoration, it is possible that the Command View XP AE Suite Common Component repository could be inconsistent with the configuration information for the Tiered Storage Manager server.
b. Check the message log for Tiered Storage Manager and verify whether the KATS50354-E message is output. The task IDs for migration tasks that were changed to failed statuses are listed in KATS50354-E. c. View the volume information for migration tasks listed in the KATS50354-E message, and check whether each migration task finished. d. Perform migration again for migration tasks that have not finished.
4 Tiered Storage Manager Properties This chapter discusses the following topics: • Overview of Tiered Storage Manager properties (see section 4-1 ) • Server properties (see section 4-2 ) • Database properties (see section 4-3 ) • Device Manager Server Access properties (see section 4-4 ) • Logger properties (see section 4-5 ) 4-1 Overview of Tiered Storage Manager Properties Tiered Storage Manager has the following types of properties files: • Server properties (see section 4-2 ) include web conf
