HPSP Version 2.1 Supersedes HPSP version 2.0 Description The HP Storage Platform (HPSP) 2.1 release contains a small number of enhancements and fixes and support for the StoreAll 6.3.0 release. No implementation changes were made. A number of new issues were discovered (primarily in the lab). They will be corrected in a future release, but these release notes describe them for tracking purposes.

Enhancements Enhancements in the 2.1 release A Quick Restore could enter infinite reboots should a local IP address be used for the credential service. This problem has been corrected through an enhancement to the implementation. Improvements were made to monitoring of transient errors observed by low level surface scanning of disk drives by the RAID firmware. These enhancements enabled improvements in diagnostic messages emitted by the system and captured in log files.

For our next major release, the document will be revised and published on HP.COM o HP HPSP_SPT User Guide, SAW document number c03597949-1. This new document has disclosure level of HP and Customer Viewable so that services may share its contents with customers having specific problems that can sometimes be resolved with this manual tool. For our next major release, the document will be revised and published on HP.COM.
Implementation Changes Implementation Changes in the 2.1 release None. This release fixed a few defects, updated a few firmware ingredients for the recipes and introduced a few enhancements. A number of issues were discovered (primarily in the lab). They were not fixed in this minor release, so these are documented here as an aid to field engineers and customers who may encounter them too. Implementation Changes in the 2.
Fixes Fixes in the 2.1 release • On the StoreAll 9730, power-up of all server blades simultaneously could lead to unresponsive OA, bouncing SAS Switch management connection and confusion in platform monitoring. This has been corrected. • On the StoreAll 9730, the collection of diagnostic logs could lead to a temporary issue communicating with iLO leading to confusion in platform monitoring, where the iLO would be reported as FAILED and then shortly thereafter reported as OK. This has been corrected.
Workarounds Firmware Management Tool The following section describes workarounds for known Firmware Management Tool issues): • In the 9720 and 9730 platforms, update of the firmware in the SAS switch can become stuck in an infinite loop. To perform the switch firmware update and avoid this problem use the following procedure: 1. Make sure that the affected switch has a working peer SAS switch. 2. Fetch OA IP by executing “hpsp_chassis_info –o” 3. Connect to OA using above IP. 4.

Performing hard reset => 7. Retry the operation (discovery/flash recommendation/flash) that has failed using FMT.
Hardware Monitoring The following section describes workarounds for known hardware monitoring issues in the 9320 platform • Hardware monitoring will continue to show a storage cluster in a DEGRADED state when an MSA snapshot LUN is removed due to the reserve LUN getting full or the user removing the block snapshot from an Ibrix 9320 Storage Platform. To resolve this issue, stop the monitoring process via the “/etc/init.d/hpspmon stop” command.
NOTE: The product id and serial number can be found on the pull out tab next to the power button of the blade enclosure with the new system board. Enter the strings exactly as printed on the tab. 1. During the server blade startup sequence, press the F9 key to access RBSU. 2. Select the Advanced Options menu. 3. Select Service Options. 4. Select Serial Number.
2. Login to the surviving blade to extract the LOM->eth mapping used 3. Combine the new information from the OA CLI with this information to create the mapping that goes into the configuration file 4. Change the HWADDR entires in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth* to match the MAC addresses of the new system board.
Known Issues Documentation The following items involve changes to HPSP documentation. • Single disk enclosure group cabling diagram in figure 19 of HP Ibrix 9320 Platform Guide – Volume I: Overview, First Edition (SAW document number c03605059) is incorrect. The next edition of the platform guides will correct this error. • Failure to correctly follow MDS600 FRU replacement procedures can erase the enclosure serial number and render MDS600 unusable until repaired by onsite engineering support.
TIP: If the message indicates individual PIC update is required, the field engineer should update the Storage Enclosure Processor (SEP) firmware using the following command: hpsp_fmt –cs –fo –f –c Enclosure_IO_Mod Hardware Monitoring The following are known hardware monitoring issues on the BL Couplet (9730) Storage Platform: • If a 9730 system with 6.2.
• Incorrect status reporting the storage is degraded when it is not occurs because the monitoring software did not know that the credentials to the storage array had been changed and could not communicate with the array and became confused. A future release will correct the events and make them more useful. The following are known hardware monitoring issues on any HPSP Platform: • Platform hardware monitoring software does not notice updates by FMT for up to 24 hours.
• Installer rejects VC password after ~5 minutes, even though it is correct. The root cause of this problem is that the VC cannot communicate with the OA. This problem can be corrected by forcing re-authentication through the following steps: 1. login to VC manually as Administrator 2. VC will display its banner and then “Connection to Onboard Administrator of Primary Enclosure is lost.” and prompt you for OA User Name. Enter “Administrator” 3. VC will prompt for the OA Password.
Documentation changes and additions Except for these release notes, none. Future editions of the HPSP reference manuals will occur when new platform hardware is introduced and/or HPSP Release 3.0 (HPSP software undergoes a major update) HPSP 2.
Installation Instructions New Installations The HP Storage Platform software is preinstalled as part of the StoreAll software if required by that platform. If you need to reinstall StoreAll software, see the administration guide for your storage system. Upgrades The upgrade procedure is provided in the administrative guide for your storage system. Contact HP Support for assistance with the procedure. HPSP 2.
