HP StoreEver 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader and MSL Tape Libraries User and Service Guide Addendum (AK378-96068, September 2013)

1 Introduction
This document includes information about features added to the autoloader or library after the user
guide was published. These features include:
Change to the HP 1/8 G2 and MSL Tape Libraries Encryption Kit encryption key creation
policy. See “Encryption kit key creation policy” (page 4).
KMIP-based key server integration. See “Using a KMIP-based key server” (page 5).
NOTE: All USB storage devices used with the autoloader or library should be FAT-32 format.
The autoloader and library do not support USB devices formatted with NTFS or other file formats.
This is an existing limitation that was not documented in the user guide.
This does not apply to the encryption kit token. The token is not a conventional USB storage device
and should not be formatted.
Encryption kit key creation policy
Creating a new encryption key is no longer allowed when media is loaded in any tape drive that
is configured for encryption.
Before creating a new key manually, verify that the drives are empty.
If the autoloader or library is using automatic key generation, verify that keys will be generated
while the drives are empty. If the library is partitioned into multiple logical libraries, only the
drives in logical libraries that are configured for encryption must be empty.
If a key creation is attempted while media is in a drive, an error is posted to the remote management
interface (RMI).
1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader and MSL2024 The key creation error can only be cleared by
rebooting the device. Subsequent key creations, either manual or automatic, will work but
they will not clear the error. Check the time stamp on the error to see when the error occurred.
MSL4048, MSL8048, and MSL8096 The key creation error is cleared during the next
successful key creation.
