HP StoreEver MSL6480 Tape Library Module Expansion Module Flyer

IMPORTANT
Read this page to avoid common installation problems with the HP StoreEver MSL6480 Tape Library
expansion module.
General notes
CAUTION: When opening a magazine, wait until the OCP says that the magazine is unlocked
before attempting to remove it. Pulling on the handle while the library is unlocking the magazine
might damage the library.
NOTE: For increased reliability, when using an expansion module verify that the library is running
4.10 or later firmware.
For proper operation, the library requires that both a top and bottom library cover plate be installed.
Do not place anything on the top library cover plate; the weight will cause errors in the library operation.
Before beginning the installation, plan the placement of modules in the rack. See the getting started
guide included with the base module or the user guide for planning information.
Before installing a module in the rack
Perform a soft power down using the front power button and then look inside the base module window to
verify that the robotic assembly is behind the Operator Control Panel (OCP). If you do not see the robotic
assembly completely in the base module, see the HP StoreEver MSL6480 Tape Library User and Service
Guide for additional troubleshooting information and procedures before proceeding.
Verify that the rack is level front to back and side to side before installing a module into the rack. Racks that
are not level can prevent the modules from aligning properly.
Moving library cover plates
When installing the new expansion module, you must move a library cover plate from the existing top or
bottom module to the new expansion module. However, do not move the bottom library cover plate until
you have performed a soft power down, which will park and lock the robot.
Firmware update
HP recommends always updating the library to the latest firmware version. You can download the latest
library firmware from the HP Support website: www.hp.com/support.
If you plan to update the firmware from the library operator control panel (OCP), copy the library firmware
image onto a FAT-32 formatted USB flash drive and then insert the USB flash drive into one of the library
