1 Introduction This section provides an overview of the Symantec OpenStorage (OST) plug-in and the HP OST v2.0 plug-in. • “Overview” (page 4) • “Terminologies” (page 4) Overview OST is a Symantec backup interface that allows intelligent storage devices, like the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System, to work with Symantec's Backup Exec (BE) software. OST provides BE administrators with advanced capabilities, such as optimized duplication and Disaster Recovery (DR) copy creation. The HP OST v2.
2 Prerequisites for the OpenStorage (OST) plug-in This section describes prerequisites for the media server that should be considered before installing the HP OpenStorage (OST) plug-in. Environment • Operating Systems The HP OST plug-in works on 64-bit versions of Windows® 2008. • Symantec Backup Exec (BE) The HP OST plug-in works with Symantec Backup Exec (BE) 2012.
3 Configuring the StoreOnce Backup System This section covers the following topics related to HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System configurations: • “Supported HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup Systems” (page 6) • “Creating CatalystStores” (page 6) • “Client-side de-duplication configuration” (page 9) Supported HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup Systems The HP OpenStorage (OST) plug-in is supported on the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System, by using the HP StoreOnce Catalyst Client-side interface.
3. Select Create→Service Set 1(or 2)→OK. 4. Change the store details.
5. 8 Click Create. A Logical Storage Unit (LSU) (CatalystStore) is created.
CatalystStores security modes NOTE: Active Directory configurations cannot be used with Catalyst Stores. There are two security modes that can be set to CatalystStore: • No authentication–Allows all users to have access to the CatalystStore. • User authentication–Allows a select group of users to have access to the CatalystStore. From the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System GUI, each CatalystStore (LSU) can be configured in one of these modes: LOWBANDWIDTH, HIGHBANDWIDTH, or both. See Figure 2 (page 10).
4 Installing the HP OpenStorage (OST) Plug-in This section provides information on how to install the HP OpenStorage (OST) plug-in. 5 Configuring the OpenStorage (OST) Plug-in This section covers information on configuring OST storage on the Backup Exec (BE) media server. Configuring an OpenStorage (OST) storage on the Backup Exec (BE) media server Before you can use the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System with Symantec Backup Exec (BE), the stores created on the storage server must be configured on the BE media server. 1. Click Storage from the navigation pane, and click Configure Storage. 12 2.
4. Provide a logical name for the Logical Storage Unit (LSU) and an optional description, and then click Next. 5. Select hp-StoreOnceCatalyst from the listed vendors, and click Next.
6. Enter the Virtual Interface (VIF) address of the service set on which the desired LSU/store exist in the designated box. NOTE: You must use the data path VIF address or VIF Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for the service set on the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System that was assigned when the system was configured. You cannot register a storage server using the management address or FQDN that you use to log on to the HP B6200 management console.

7. Select the new user account created for OST, provide the VIF address, and click Next. 8. After the dialog box that lists all accessible CatalystStores that can be configured as an LSU on BE is displayed, select the desired store, and click Next.
9. Select the limit for maximum concurrent jobs that you would like to run on the LSU, and then click Next.
10. After the final confirmation screen is displayed, verify the details, and click Finish. A BE service restart is required to bring the newly configured LSU online.
6 Creating a sample backup policy Complete the following steps to create a backup policy: 1. Go to Backup and Restore from the navigation pane, and select Backup → Back Up to Deduplication Disk Storage. The Backup Properties window is displayed. 2. After the Backup Properties window is displayed, you can select the data set to be backed up. Additionally, you can edit the backup by clicking Edit from the Backup pane.
3. 4. 20 After you make your entries on the Backup Properties window, you can select the storage by navigating to the Storage tab from the side navigation bar. For additional settings, please refer to the Symantec Backup Exec user guide.
7 Restoring a backup file Complete the following steps to restore a backup file: 1. Click Restore from the top navigation pane. The Restore-Wizard will display. 2. Select Files, folders, or volume, and click Next. The next window shows restore type options that you can make. 3. Select Files and folder backups. All backup sets will be listed.
4. 22 Select the backup set you wish to restore.
5. Indicate the path where you want to restore the backed up set.
6. 24 Select integrity, hierarchy, and security options for the restore.
7. Provide options for restoring operating system features in this window.
The next window provides options for additional pre- and post-restore tasks.
8. Provide job name and schedule information. A confirmation screen is displayed.

9. Verify details, and click Finish.
8 Creating an optimized duplication To create an optimized duplication, complete the following steps: 1. Click Backup Sets from the side navigation bar. Expand the needed set, and then right click Duplicate. 2. 30 Select the desired storage device and other options, and then click OK.
9 Recommendations • HP strongly recommends that restore jobs and duplicate jobs for an image not be run in parallel. • Concurrent restores of a given image are not supported, but you can restore them sequentially. • See configuration files location listed in “Installing the OpenStorage (OST) plug-in with Backup Exec (BE)” (page 11) for details regarding the configuration parameters.
