Modifying the current configuration
After upgrade, you may wish to:
Add a further portset to support an additional Data subnet. If the portset is VLAN enabled, it
will be possible to configure multiple VLAN subnets. If it is not enabled, you may only add
one Data subnet to the portset. Either option would enable you to have separate networks for
Backup data, typically on a pair of 10GbE bonded ports, and StoreOnce Catalyst Copy and
Replication data, typically on a pair of 1GbE bonded ports, on the StoreOnce Backup system.
Modify an existing Data portset to be VLAN enabled. This would enable you to support an
environment where the customer’s network switch is configured to separate backup data traffic
according to different departments or regions.
Add encryption to a subnet.
Add further IP addresses to a subnet configuration, for example if adding a couplet, or
upgrading from a single-rack to a two-rack installation, when the initial configuration was not
created for all possible nodes (8) in an expanded cluster.
Best practise
The recommended best practise is:
1. Create a backup copy of the StoreOnce configuration using the StoreOnce CLI command
(config save devices. If you have the Security license installed, also create a keystore
backup using the StoreOnce CLI command (config save keystore.
2. You are not allowed to modify the current configuration directly. Create a copy of the current
configuration using the following StoreOnce CLI command (<newconfig> is the name
assigned to the copied file and can be any name you choose):
net copy config from current to <newconfig>
TIP: Use the StoreOnce CLI command, net show config list, to check that the copy
has been created successfully.
3. Make the required modification, using the relevant parameters as described in the separate
sections below. The StoreOnce CLI commands that you use will depend upon the type of
modification that you are making, whether you are adding to or modifying a configuration.
For more information about individual commands see the HP StoreOnce Backup system CLI
Reference Guide.
4. Validate the modified configuration using the StoreOnce CLI command:
net validate config <newconfig>
NOTE: If there are any errors at this stage we have made a mistake in the configuration
and we must correct it. If no errors are reported, we can proceed with the activation step
5. Activate the modified configuration using the StoreOnce CLI command:
net activate config <newconfig>
6. Once successfully validated and activated, the modified configuration becomes the current
configuration and overwrites the contents of the current configuration.
TIP: If the network configuration is complex, it may take a little time for the settings to become
active. After changing network configuration use the following StoreOnce CLI command to
check progress:
net activate status
