5 The HP p1224 RAID controller
Overview
All HP StoreOnce Backup systems described within this guide use the HP p1224 RAID controller
fitted with a RAID cache module and SuperCapacitor. The HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup has two
RAID controllers; the HP 2700 and 4500 Backup have one RAID controller. Cables connect the
internal SAS port on the RAID controller to the SAS storage in the server unit and the external SAS
port on the controller to the SAS storage in the expansion shelf. The RAID cache module is seated
on the RAID card and has one port to connect to the SuperCapacitor (which is located in the center
of the unit, clipped to the floor of the chassis behind the disk cage).
Part numbers
Replacement spares part numbers for the p1224 card and SuperCapacitor module are as follows:
• HP p1224 RAID controller with 1GB cache module: 698465–001
• SuperCapacitor: 660093–001
• Internal SAS cable: 729358–001
This connects the RAID controller to the SAS disks in the head server unit.
• External SAS cable: 717429–001
This connects the RAID controller in the head server unit to the SAS disks in the expansion
shelf. It is required for HP StoreOnce 4700 Backup, which must be connected to the
pre-configured storage array, and is also used with both HP StoreOnce 4700 and 4500
Backup when an expansion shelf is added.
• External SAS cable: 408765-001
This connects one expansion shelf to another expansion shelf, and is only used with HP
StoreOnce 4700 Backup.
