HP Store Once 2700, 4500 and 4700 Maintenance and Service Guide

2 General information
NOTE: Make sure you have the correct Maintenance and Service guide for your product. There
are a number of different models, and each has its own guide.
Performance best practices
HP recommends that you review HP StoreOnce Backup system Concepts and Configuration
Guidelines, describing simple steps that can be performed to ensure that your HP StoreOnce Backup
System is optimized as efficiently as possible.
You can view this document from http://www.hp.com/support/. Search on the StoreOnce Product
Name and select the Product Manuals link.
Upgrading BIOS or hardware firmware components
Do not upgrade BIOS or hardware firmware components individually using downloads from the
HP Support website because currently supported firmware component updates are already
embedded within the StoreOnce software. Always use the StoreOnce CLI to implement BIOS and
hardware firmware component checks and updates.
Use hardware show firmware to check the versions currently running on the StoreOnce
Backup system. This command lists the firmware versions for node (server) firmware components
and storage firmware components.
Use hardware update firmware to implement any updates that were packaged with the
latest StoreOnce software download. See the HP StoreOnce Backup CLI Reference Guide for
more information about the parameters for this command. Updates are run separately for the
server and the storage.
NOTE: You need to specify the node or storage as a parameter when running these commands.
For example:
hardware show firmware node to show all components relating to the server.
hardware show firmware storage to show all components relating to storage.
There may be instances where replacement hardware needs a firmware downgrade to bring it in
line with the supported firmware version of the installed StoreOnce software on the system being
maintained. Use the force parameter in the command to enable this.
Upgrading StoreOnce software
The Command Line Interface (CLI) is used to upgrade software. For more information about the
upgrade process and how to use the StoreOnce CLI, please refer to the HP StoreOnce Backup
system User Guide and the HP StoreOnce Backup system CLI Reference Guide. The release notes
issued with the software upgrade also contain detailed instructions about applying the software
upgrade.
POST messages and troubleshooting
The HP StoreOnce Management Console (GUI and Command Line Interface) are the primary
sources of troubleshooting information. However, they are not able to capture power-on self-test
hardware-related issues. Always refer to the Maintenance and Service Guide that relates to the
server on which the product is based for Power-On Self-Test (POST) information. To view POST
messages you will need a system console attached to the HP StoreOnce Backup system.
