HP OpenStorage (OST) Plug-in for Symantec NetBackup on Solaris (EJ002-90998, December 2012)

5 Configuring the OpenStorage (OST) Plug-in
This section covers the following OST plug-in topics:
“Registering a storage server with NetBackup (NBU)” (page 12)
“Creating disk pools and storage units” (page 15)
To begin an operation in NetBackup, start the NetBackup Administration Console by running the
file, . Then, follow the steps outlined in “Registering a storage server with NetBackup (NBU)”
(page 12).
Registering a storage server with NetBackup (NBU)
You must register the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System with NetBackup before using them
with the HP OpenStorage (OST) plug-in.
You can now use NetBackup console to configure the backup operations. See the documentation
provided with NetBackup.
NOTE: All the participating storage servers for a media server (such as the local HP B6200
StoreOnce Backup System and remote HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System) have to be registered
with the media server.
NOTE: When registering the storage server, you must use the data path VIF address for the
service set on the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System that was assigned when the system was
configured. You cannot register a storage server using the VIF address or host name that you used
to log on to the HP B6200 Management Console.
The data VIF for each service set can be found on the Web GUI at the root of the navigation tree
for the B6200 StoreOnce System. Select each required service set(s) to be used to display its VIF
IP and VIF FQDN. This can also be found in the CLI by using the net show config command.
This command will display the current network template of the system, which details the data VIFs
for all of the service sets.
Using the Command Line Interface (CLI) for registration
Complete the following Command Language Interface (CLI) commands to register storage servers
with NBU:
1. Go to the /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd location.
2. Run the following command (replacing IPAddress or Host Name with the actual IP address
or host name of the HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System) to register the storage server. The
parameter stype for the OST plug-in is hp-StoreOnceCatalyst.
nbdevconfig -creatests -storage_server <Data path VIF IPAddress or
FQDN> -stype hp-StoreOnceCatalyst -st 9 -media_server <Media Server
IP or Host Name>
3. If the command is successful, change to the /usr/openv/volmgr/bin directory, and then
run the following command to set the credentials.
tpconfig -add -storage_server <Data path VIF IPAddress or FQDN>
-stype hp-StoreOnceCatalyst -sts_user_id <User Name> -password
<Password>
Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for registration
NetBackup provides a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to perform the registration of a storage
server. The commands necessary for earlier NetBackup versions can be eliminated by completing
the following steps.
