HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager Deployment Guide (AX696-96328, September 2013)

1 Using the HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager
The HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager simplifies the task of recovering data from the HP StoreVirtual
solution by enabling you to find and mount snapshots from your HP StoreVirtual Storage from a
single application.
Consider the following when using Recovery Manager:
Snapshots must be mounted before you can search for and recover folders or files. The Recovery
Manager provides the following methods for mounting snapshots:
Use Auto-Mount Policies with scheduled snapshots or snapshot sets to keep up to five
snapshots continuously mounted.
Use Manage Snapshots to find and mount individual snapshots.
Mount additional snapshots while using the File and Folder Recovery Wizard.
Snapshots are mounted as read-write.
The following types of snapshots cannot be mounted by the Recovery Manager:
Unformatted snapshots
Linux/UNIX formatted snapshots
Snapshots that are connected to other servers via iSCSI sessions
Snapshots that are mounted by other servers
The Recovery Manager only supports manually mounting snapshots and using the File and
Folder Recovery Wizard if installed in a Microsoft Cluster environment. The Auto-Mount Policies
will not work in a Microsoft Cluster environment.
The Recovery Manager is not a cluster-aware application. It will work on a host in a Microsoft
cluster but will not failover to other servers in the cluster. You can install the Recovery Manager
on each server in a Microsoft cluster to ensure that it is available at all times in the cluster.
