HP Surestore Bridge FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV Installation and Operations Guide

192 Diagnosing Problems Chapter 8
Cannot Confirm the Library or MO Jukebox Connection (Windows NT)
Note The NT discovery process is not dynamic. When SCSI devices
are powered on after the host, the control panel will not display
their connection until the host is re-booted.
1. Confirm the library or MO jukebox connection by using the control panel
menu on the server to review the SCSI device folder.
2. Before powering-on the bridge, make sure the library or MO jukebox and
drives are configured for SCSI. This can be done through the front panel of
the library or jukebox.
3. Make sure the libraries or MO jukebox, bridge, and switch are powered-
on and connected appropriately before powering on hosts. If they were
not connected, powered on, and configured properly before the host was
powered-on, restart the host (and any other on the loop, one at a time).
4. If the host does not display the SCSI devices under the Fibre Channel HBA
in the control panel, restart the host, and then recheck for the appearance
of the library or MO jukebox SCSI devices.
5. Run the tape diagnostic utility from the host to verify that the library and
drives are detected and pass all self-tests.
6. Verify SCSI bus configuration: Check all appropriate devices for the
following conditions:
Termination: Problems with termination can cause intermittent or hard
failure.
Terminate the SCSI bus on both ends, and only at the ends of the bus.
By default, the bridge provides internal termination at the bridge end
of each SCSI bus. Check each terminator and connector for bent pins.
Bus Type - The FC 4/1 HV bridge provides only HVD SCSI buses. SE
or LVD SCSI devices cannot be supported on this bridge. Verify that
all devices hooked up to each bus of the FC 4/1 HV are HVD SCSI
devices.
The FC 2/1 LV bridge provides only LVD/SE SCSI buses. HVD SCSI
devices cannot be supported on this bridge. Verify that all devices
hooked up to each bus of the FC 2/1 LV are LVD or SE devices. Do
not mix LVD and SE devices on the same SCSI bus of the FC 2/1 LV.
