78 Changing the Default Settings Chapter 4

Using the serial cable is not necessary in most installations. The default settings

work in most configurations. Use the serial cable only if one of the following

situations occurs:

■ The default configuration must be changed.

■ A failure has occurred that required diagnostic procedures (see Chapter

8, “Troubleshooting”).

If any of these scenarios occur, attach the serial cable as shown in Figure 37

on page 79.

1. Plug one DB-9 connector into the bridge.

2. Plug the other DB-9 connector into the Com1 or Com2 port of the

computer.

Note The DB-9 to DB-9 serial cable provided with the bridge is a

special “null modem” cable that provides a direct host to bridge

connection.
